California 2-Year Emission Control Warranty Your Warranty Rights and Obligations The California Air Resources Board and Kohler Co. are pleased to explain the emission control system warranty for your year 2000--2005 small off-road engine/generator set. In California, new small off-road (utility) engines/generator sets must be designed, built, and equipped to meet the State’s stringent anti-smog standards. For engines/generator sets sold and operated in California, Kohler Co. must warrant the emission control system for the period of time listed below provided there has been no abuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or unapproved modification of your small off-road engine/generator set. Your emission control system includes the carburetor, ignition system, and crankcase breather. Where a warrantable condition exists, Kohler Co. will repair your small off-road engine/generator set at no cost to you including diagnosis, parts, and repair labor. Manufacturer’s Warranty Coverage Year 2000--2005 small off-road engines/generator sets are warranted for two years. If any emission control part on your engine/generator set is defective, Kohler Co. will repair or replace the part. Owner’s Warranty Responsibilities D As the small off-road (utility) engine/generator set owner, you are responsible for the performance of the required maintenance listed in your owner’s manual. Kohler Co. recommends that you retain all receipts covering maintenance on your small off-road (utility) engine/generator set, but Kohler Co. cannot deny warranty solely for the lack of receipts or for your failure to ensure the performance of all scheduled maintenance. D Kohler Co. may deny you warranty coverage if your small off-road (utility) engine/generator set or a part has failed due to abuse, neglect, improper maintenance, or unapproved modifications. D You are responsible for presenting your small off-road (utility) engine/generator set to a Kohler Co. distributor/dealer as soon as a problem exists. The warranty repairs should be completed within 30 days. If you have any questions regarding your warranty rights and responsibilities, you should contact a Kohler Co. customer service representative at 1-800-544-2444. Kohler Co. Explanation of Warranty Coverage Warranty Start Date The warranty period begins on the date the original customer takes delivery of the generator set. Length of Coverage Kohler Co. warrants to the original consumer and each subsequent purchaser that the emission control system of each engine/generator set sold will be free of manufacturing defects in material or workmanship when used in normal service for a period of two years after the date of purchase by the original consumer. What is Covered Kohler Co. has the option to expressly limit our obligation under this warranty to the replacement or repair of defective parts. This will be done at Kohler Co., Kohler, WI, 53044, or at an authorized service facility designated by Kohler Co. Repair or replacement (parts and labor) will be performed at a warranty station at no charge to the owner. Call 1-800-544-2444 to obtain information about the nearest distributor/dealer. The emission control system warranty covers the following warranted parts only: D Carburetor assembly D Intake manifold (if equipped) D Fuel lines, gaskets, hoses, belts D Crankcase breather D Ignition modules with high tension lead D Spark advance module (if equipped) D Air filter, fuel filter, and spark plugs (only to first scheduled replacement period) D Fuel pressure regulator (if equipped) D Exhaust manifold D Emission control electronics D Oxygen sensor (if equipped) The owner will not be charged for diagnostic labor for emission system warranty repairs if a warranted part is defective. Diagnostic work must be performed at an authorized service facility. Kohler Co. is liable for damages to other engine/generator set components caused by the failure of a warranted part still under warranty. TP-5762 11/02c -Continued- Kohler Co. Explanation of Warranty Coverage (Continued) What is Not Covered The emission control system warranty does not cover: D Maintenance parts such as air filters, oil filters, and spark plugs after the first scheduled replacement period. Requirements for replacement are dependent upon the environment (dust and dirt in the air), hours of operation, and the operator’s maintenance program over which Kohler Co. has no control. D Malfunctions of any warranted part caused by any of the following: abuse, misuse, modification, alteration, use of add-on parts, tampering, disconnection, or improper or inadequate maintenance. D Damage resulting from accidents, acts of nature, or other events beyond the control of Kohler Co. D Repairs and services performed by anyone other than an authorized Kohler Co. distributor/dealer. D Loss of use of the engine/generator set, commercial loss, loss of time, or inconvenience. Where to Get Warranty Service Kohler dealers/distributors shall provide warranty services or repairs. The distributor/dealer will file the warranty claim. Maintenance, Replacement and Repair of Emission Related Parts The engine/generator set control system of your Kohler engine/generator set was designed, built, and tested using only genuine Kohler Co. parts. With these parts, the engine/generator set is certified to conform with California emission control regulations. Kohler Co. recommends that only genuine Kohler parts be used for maintenance, repair, or replacement of the emission control system. Use of replacement parts that are not equal in quality to genuine Kohler Co. parts may impair the effectiveness of the emission control system or otherwise damage your engine/generator. The use of non-Kohler Co. replacement parts does not invalidate the warranty of any other component unless the non-Kohler parts cause damage to warranted parts. However, Kohler Co. assumes no liability under this warranty for any parts that are not genuine Kohler Co. parts, unless Kohler Co. parts cause damage to nongenuine parts. The engine/generator set owner is responsible for performing the required maintenance as defined by Kohler Co. in the written instructions found in the owner’s manual provided with the engine/generator. If your engine/generator has one of these labels, it is certified for operation in California.
