Warwick Greenwood JFC 2016 Modified and Open Match Report Round 10 – 24 July 2016 Yr 4 Green Warwick Greenwood Knights Year 4 Green v Carine Pumas Sundays game was by far our best overall team game this season. From the start we were switched on and never let up all game, it was very pleasing to watch as we used team-mates who ran into space and linked up with some great passages of football. Our midfield work in the last quarter saw Jayden, Ethan and Nicholas work together time and time again to win the ball out of the middle into our forward line which helped us score around 8 goal in the last quarter. The whole team gave great effort and we need to finish of the season playing this brand of football as I sure the parents would agree it was good to watch. We had some standout players on the day with Tom Wooldridge having the ball on a string in the first quarter and took mark of the year with a great pack mark. Tom Dobson who never stopped running all day and kicking a couple of goal. Hayden who never stops tackling but needs tone it down a bit and kicking 4 goals in the last quarter. Ben and Aidan up forward competed all day and Aidan kicking a goal. Darcy who reads the play so well and set up numerous forward attacks along with Jett with his run and carry. Abbey who plays well in any position and finishing with a couple of goals. The whole team can be very proud of how they played. This weeks coaches awards went to Charlie and Ross who competed well all day and both kicking a goal. Well done boys and well done team Yr 5 Reds KINGSWAY vs WGJFC Thanks to 4 fill ins from year 4 we fielded 13 boys, for 3 quarters, borrowing one from Kingsway to even up. In the 4th quarter the Yr 4 boys had to leave so we had to even up again borrowing 2 from Kingsway. All in all was a disappointing game, boys just couldn't get it down to our forward line, but kept digging in and having ago. Ben Ashman was named player of the day. Our fill ins Thaddy , and Mason were a strong presence in the time they played Yr 7 Sorrento Duncraig Lions 3 2 20 def by WGJFC Knights 11 8 74 Today's match between Warwick Greenwood Knights and Sorrento Duncraig Lions was a chance for the boys to put a side away that was struggling at the bottom of the ladder and try and kick a game clear in fourth position. With the game being played at Seacrest on the big ground it suited our boys with our runners getting clear a number of times which resulted in goals. The boys played well and everyone did their part but if where going to roll one of the top 3 sides we need to hold our structure when in our forward 50 and learn to switch when its on, we also need to show more aggression around the contested ball but these are things we can work on at training. Well played today boys and let's see if we can string a
few games together that will be crucial to where we finish. Best Players- Hayden Bond, Will Macaullay, Romeo Maxwell, Wil Dobson, Connor Cross, Harry Brown and Jesse Turner. GO KNIGHTS Yr 9 Carine Cougars v Warwick Greenwood Knights Carine Cougars 3.2 - 20 Warwick Greenwood Knights 11.12 - 78 What looked to be the perfect weather to show case clean skills was something the Knights Yr9s didn't take into consideration, with a below average start to the game. Admittedly Carine were very good at pressing up onto the ball carrier and ran very hard with transition, this caused skill errors and chaos with our playing group, only in the second we began to settle and regain some control on the game with Alex Mackie giving us a great option up forward. With Carine without a bench they began to tire very quickly in the 3rd Qtr and this was when the Knights took full advantage and lifted their intensity through the midfield, while our defence stayed super strong with Zac Wise, Kyle Vance and Riley Schofield, who gave us fantastic tackling pressure. Quite happy with the outcome of the game, yet reserved over the four quarter effort. Well done lads John. Yr 10 BYE Yr 11 WGC 09.10:64 NB 16.12:108 Besides a handful of players it was not as good a performance as usual. The only pleasing thing is when we pleaded with the boys to step up at half time they did, but by then it was to late. I think we took a couple of steps backwards on Sunday, I am not sure why but we will be trying to sort it out ASAP. Tim
