Every button you press afterwards will control your set-top box. To control your TV, press the TV button. Every button you press afterwards will control your TV. Note: In order to control your TV with your remote, your remote control must have the remote code programmed in before it can send the correct signals to your TV. If the list of TV brand codes was not included in your installation pack, please contact Nex-Tech at 877-567-7872. Turn Your Set-Top Box On or Off Menu The Menu button displays the Menu bar. The Menu bar provides quick access to every feature supported by your digital TV service including Guide, Rentals, PVR, Vault, Parental Controls, Settings, Favorites, Search and Sign Out. Exit The Exit button causes your set-top box to exit whatever screen you are seeing and return to normal TV viewing. Guide Press the STB button on your remote and then press the Power button on your remote control. Guide is the place to quickly find out what’s on now and what’s playing later. You can set reminders or recordings for upcoming programs in Guide. Change Channels Go to Guide The Program Up and Down buttons will change your channels up and down one at a time. There are two ways to access the Guide: 1. Press Guide or Action on your remote, or The Number keys can be used to directly enter a channel number. The Back button on your remote control will return you to the previous channel you were watching. The Action or Guide button will display the Guide. If the program you want to watch is on now, you just tune to the appropriate channel. If the program is not yet available, you can set a scheduled event to remind you when it does come on. You can also set a recording (see the Recording section for more information). 2. Press Menu, highlight Guide and press OK. On Demand Rentals Renting an On Demand Movie or Event Rentals provides access to On Demand movies and programs. You can rent the latest movies, events and more – all from the comfort of your own home! You can choose from the most recent movies, older favorites and more! You can also watch the movie repeatedly during the rental period. Additionally, you can pause, rewind or fast forward, so you don’t have to miss a moment of your rental. Step 1: Press Menu, highlight Rentals and press OK. Step 2: Choose a Main Category and press OK. Step 3: Choose a subcategory and press OK. To view the Rentals, press Menu, highlight Rentals and press OK. Highlight the category you wish to browse and press OK. The main categories are divided into subcategories. Highlight the subcategory you wish to view and press OK. To go back and pick a different main category, highlight the green tab above the subcategories and press OK to return to the main categories. When you choose a subcategory, a list of all available On Demand Rentals for that category are shown to the right. Highlighting an On Demand Rental will list information for that rental in the upper right portion of the screen. Step 5: Highlight Rent and press OK. Step 6: If you want anyone who signs in to your set-top box to be able to watch this Rental, highlight Share Rentals and press OK. If you don’t want to share this Rental or if you don’t use sign in, leave this blank. Step 7: Highlight the text box next to Enter Pin and enter your Pin. The Pin # is initially set at 0000. You can go into settings to establish a new pin #. If you need help you may contact customer service at 877-567-7872. To watch a movie trailer, pick a rental and press OK. If a trailer is available, highlight Play Trailer and press OK. Navigating the Guide There are several ways to navigate the Guide: 1. Press the Direction Buttons on your remote to move the highlight. 2. You can also jump directly to a channel by typing the number in with your Number Pad on your remote. 3. Press Program +/- to page up and down. 4. Press OK to choose the program you have highlighted. If it is on now, Guide will tune you to the channel. Press OK or Exit to leave the Guide. 4 Step 4: Select the movie you are interested in and press OK. 9 Schedule a Recording, Reminder or Autotune Event Cancel a Recording Event Step 1: Highlight the event you want to cancel and press OK. You can schedule a recording, reminder, or autotune event from the PVR menu in almost exactly the same way as you would when choosing Schedule Event from Guide. The only difference when doing so from the PVR menu is that no information about the event is entered for you. To schedule a recording, highlight Schedule Event and press OK. Once you choose Schedule Event from the PVR menu, the Schedule Event window appears. You will use the same controls for each setting: Highlight the setting you want to change and press OK. Use the up or down direction buttons on your remote to change the setting. Press OK to enter your change. Step 1: Set the Channel Step 2: Set the Program Length (hours:minutes) Step 3: Set the Program Air Date (Month/Day) Step 2: Highlight Cancel Recording and press OK. Step 3: Once you have cancelled the recording event, the entry for that recording event is removed from the list. View Recording History Record History is a log of all events related to your recordings, including recording started, recording completed and cancellation of a recording event. To go to Record History, highlight Record History and press OK. Press up and down on the remote to scroll through your record history. Delete History Delete History is a log of all recordings that have been deleted. To go to Delete History, highlight Delete History and press OK. Press up and down on the remote to scroll through your deletion history. DVR Instructions DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. DVRs allow you to record programs digitally without the need for videotapes. DVRs are also sometimes referred to as PVRs, as on your screen guide and in this guide. Your set-top box can record many hours of programming, allowing you to watch TV shows, movies and more at your convenience with the capability to rewind, fast forward or pause. Additionally, if you are recording a program as you watch it, you can pause or rewind the “live” program. Your set-top box will continue to record while paused or while you watch a replay, and then pick back up where you left off. PVR Menu Quick Reference • Recordings lists programs you have already recorded. Go to Recordings to watch, lock or delete recorded programs. Step 5: Set the Event Type. Choose Recording, Reminder or Autotune. • Record History is a log of when recordings start, complete or are cancelled. Step 6: Set Event Frequency. Choose Single (the recording will happen once), Weekly (the recording happens on the same day every week), Every M-F (the event happens every weekday) or Every Day (the event happens every day of the week). • Delete History logs any deleted recording(s). Step 7: Set the Event. Highlight OK and press OK to save your scheduled recording, or highlight Cancel and press OK to exit back to the PVR menu. 8 While watching a program, press the Record button on your remote control. Your set-top box will immediately begin recording and the Info Bar will appear with a red Record icon to the right. Once recording has started, a PVR icon will replace the Record icon on the right side of your TV screen indicating you are now watching a program recorded to PVR (even though it may still be recording). You can also start a quick record in Guide. Press Guide, highlight a program you want to record using the direction buttons and press Record. If the program is currently on, recording will begin immediately. If the program comes on in the future, a recording is scheduled and your set-top box will record the program for you automatically. If you are recording a live event, such as a sporting event, it is recommended you manually extend the record time past the scheduled end time of the event in case the event lasts longer than scheduled. • To Record lists all Recording events you have scheduled and allows you to cancel any future recording events. • Schedule Event allows you to create a recording, reminder or autotune event for individual or recurring programs. Step 4: Set the Start Time (Hour: Minute AM/PM) Recording 5 Controlling PVR-recorded Programs Watch a PVR-recorded Program Step 1: Highlight the recording you want to watch and press OK. While watching a PVR-recorded program, you can use the PVR buttons on the bottom of your remote to pause, rewind, fast-forward or stop playback. Step 2: To play the recording, highlight Play Recording and press OK. • Press Pause [] to halt playback at the current point. Step 3: To watch the recording, you will exit the PVR menu and your recording will begin playing. The Info Bar will appear for a few seconds with a green PVR icon to the right to indicate you are playing a PVR recording. While watching your recording, you can use any of the PVR buttons on the bottom section of your remote just as you would if watching a videotape or DVD. • Press Rewind [] to reverse playback from the current point. Press the button repeatedly to quicken the rewind speed. • Press Fast Forward [] to advance playback from the current point. Each time you press the Fast Forward button, the fast forward speed will increase. Press Play [] to resume watching at normal speed. Step 4: When your recording ends, you will return to live TV. If you want to return to live TV before your recording has ended, press the Stop [] button on your remote. • Press Stop [] to exit playback of the PVR-recorded program. The PVR Menu The PVR item in the Menu provides access to previously recorded programs, recording events you have set, schedule an event, view your recording history and delete your recording history. To access the PVR item, press Menu on your remote, highlight PVR and press OK. Lock or Unlock a Recording Review Recordings Locking a recording prevents the system from deleting a program to make space for new recordings. This is useful if you’ve recorded a movie or other program you wish to watch repeatedly. You can easily review and cancel future recording events from To Record. Go to Recording Events Highlight To Record and press OK. A list of your scheduled future recording events will appear to the right. Recordings are listed from earliest at the top to latest at the bottom. Each recording event history lists the channel on which the program is shown, the name of the program and the date and time it airs. Step 1: Highlight the recording you want to lock and press OK. Step 2a: Highlight Lock and press OK. Once the program is locked, a padlock icon appears to the right of the recording date. If the recording event is a multi-recording, stacked red dot icons are shown to the right of the program date and time. Step 2b: To unlock a recording, select a locked program and highlight unlock. Press OK. When the program is unlocked, the padlock icon is removed. Deleting a Recording Step 1: Highlight the recording you want to delete and press OK. Step 2: Highlight Delete Recording and press OK. Step 3: Highlight Yes and press OK to confirm, or No if you changed your mind. Step 4: Once you confirm the deletion, the entry for that recording is removed from the list. Once a recording has been deleted, it cannot be recovered. Go to PVR Recordings Once in the PVR menu, highlight Recordings and press OK. A list of your recorded programs will appear to the right. Recordings are listed from oldest at the top to newest at the bottom. Along with the program name, the length of the recording in minutes and the date the recording is made are listed. Any program still being recorded is listed with a red dot icon to the right of the recording date. 6 7
