TM Interface Module for the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM Installation Instructions Document Number 8810-A2-GN10-10 May 1999 What is the Interface Module for the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM? The Hotwire 8800 Interface Module allows all user interface connections to the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM chassis to be made and maintained in the front of the Interface Module. This easy accessibility enables clean, controlled cable routing. The Interface Module provides: Three 50-pin Telco connectors to allow connection from DSL ports to POTS splitter shelves or for direct routing to the MDF 10BaseT Ethernet interfaces for each card Diagnostic interfaces to the MCC card for asynchronous terminal and central office (CO) alarm systems Connections for – 48V power input The 8800 Interface Module also stores MAC addresses and contains powersharing circuits for providing dual power. 8810-A2-GN10-10 May 1999 1 POWER A B ALARMS Fan Major Minor SYST SYST EM EM OK OK Alm Alm Test Test ETHE RNET ETHE RNET TX TX RX RX Coll DSL Coll PORT 1 2 3 4 RADSL MCC -48V INPUT SLOTS 13-18 2 4 6 8 1 3 5 7 LAN/WAN SLOT 10 14 12 16 18 15 17 20 MGT SERIAL FR GND RET (B) -48V (B) SLOTS 1 - 6 RET (A) LINES SLOTS 7-12 -48V (A) Interface Module 11 9 LAN/WAN SLOT 13 19 MGT 10BT ALARM Ground Lug 97-15280-01 Removing the Interface Module You will need a small- to medium-sized flatblade screwdriver to remove any Telco cable that may be connected, and a Phillips screwdriver to remove the interface module. Procedure To remove the interface module: 1. Remove any cables and power input wires connected to the interface module. 2. Loosen and swing the ground lug in the upper-right corner of the interface module so that it will not impede the removal of the module. 2 May 1999 8810-A2-GN10-10 3. Unscrew the captive screws on each end of the interface module. 4. Using both hands, place your fingers inside the flange of the extended shelf at the bottom of the interface module. There are lead-in ramps at the bottom of the chassis. Use these to guide the replacement interface module until it engages the nylon card guides. 97-15595 2. Slide the module into the chassis. 3. Press gently, but firmly, to engage connectors at the back of the module with those on the backplane. 4. Press until the edges of the module are flush with the sides of the chassis. 5. Tighten the captive screws to lock the interface module in place. NOTE: Make sure the edges are flush. Tightening the captive screws will not jack the module into place. 6. A ground lug in the right corner of the interface module has been adjusted from its normal position for shipping. Turn the ground lug 180 to the left and tighten. *8810–A2–GN10–10* Copyright E 1999 Paradyne Corporation 4 May 1999 8810-A2-GN10-10
