White Instruments File: AE-4700.doc 15 February 1999 The equalizer shall be a single channel, analog, digitally controlled, one-third octave, R-C active graphic equalizer. Total control of the unit shall be from controls and graphic display on its front panel. A back-lit display option shall be available (White Instruments 4700BL). The graphic equalizer shall have twenty-eight single-pole pair, one-third octave filters between 31.5Hz and 16kHz on standard I.S.O. frequency centers. The precision of the filters shall be at least ±5% of the standard I.S.O. one-third octave center frequencies. Each one-third octave filter shall have an adjustment range between –12dB and +12dB in 0.5dB steps. In addition the unit shall have an adjustable high-pass filter and an adjustable low-pass filter. Each of these filters shall have a response of 12dB per octave and adjusted in at least eight steps between 10Hz and 160Hz for the high-pass filter and 32kHz and 6kHz for the low-pass filter. A hard-wired bypass switch shall be provided on the rear panel. Up to 12dB gain shall be available and adjusted in 0.5dB steps.

The standard 4700 has NO built-in noise source or crossover filters. 4706 Flat White/Pink Noise Generator Option: This option is added at the factory to turn the 4700 into a masking generator with onethird octave filters.
The unit shall be factory configured to include a selectable, digital white/pink noise generator (White Instruments option 4706). The pink noise shall be flat ±1.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz. The noise produced by this generator shall be shaped by the unit’s filters and presented at the unit’s output. 4706A Shaped Pink Noise Generator Option: This option is added at the factory to turn the 4700 into a masking generator with onethird octave filters. The unit shall be factory configured to include a shaped, digital pink noise generator (White Instruments option 4706A). The pink noise shall be flat ±1.5dB from 200Hz to 20kHz with a selectable –3dB/octave or –6dB/octave response below 250Hz. The noise produced by this generator shall be additionally shaped by the unit’s filters and presented at the unit’s output. 4712 Pink Noise Generator Option: This option is added at the factory to turn the 4700 into a masking generator with onethird octave filters. The unit shall be factory configured to include a digital pink noise generator (White Instruments option 4712). The pink noise shall be flat ±1.5dB from 20Hz to 20kHz. The noise produced by this generator shall be shaped by the unit’s filters and presented at the unit’s output. 4707 Two-way (bi-amp) Crossover Network Option: This option adds a second output to the unit and a two-way frequency dividing network at any specified frequency between 20Hz and 20kHz. The network can be specified with a
12, 18 or 24dB per octave response and Butterworth, Bessel or Linkwitz-Riley characteristics. CD horn correction can be added to the high-pass section. The equalizer shall be configured at the factory with a two-way crossover network (White Instruments 4707 option) with delete specs that do not apply Butterworth Bessel Linkwitz-Riley characteristics. The crossover frequency supply frequency shall be ___Hz. The response of the crossover network shall be delete specs that do not apply 12dB/octave 18dB/octave 24dB/octave. Delete if not applicable. The high-pass section of the crossover shall be compensated for use with constant directivity horns. 4708 Three-way (tri-amp) Crossover Network Option: This option adds a second and third output to the unit and a three-way frequency dividing network at any specified frequencies between 20Hz and 20kHz. The network can be specified with 12, 18 or 24dB per octave responses and Butterworth, Bessel or LinkwitzRiley characteristics. CD horn correction can be added to the bandpass and high-pass sections. The equalizer shall be configured at the factory with a three-way crossover network (White Instruments 4708 option) with delete specs that do not apply Butterworth Bessel Linkwitz-Riley characteristics. The crossover frequency shall be supply frequencies ___Hz and ___Hz. The response of the crossover network shall be delete specs that do not apply 12dB/octave 18dB/octave 24dB/octave. Delete if not applicable. The high-pass section delete if not applicable and bandpass section of the crossover shall be compensated for use with constant directivity horns. Input and output to the equalizer shall be active, servo-balanced circuits that provide at least 85dB common mode rejection and can be unbalanced without change in gain. The unit shall be capable of operating at least +18dBu or 0dBu with 18dB of headroom. At maximum operating levels the equalizer’s noise level shall be down at least 82dB as measured over a 20kHz bandwidth with all filters being used. The distortion at maximum operating level shall be less than 0.05% THD. The unit shall have at least ten storage memories and ten presets. The memories, presets and current operating settings shall be non-volatile and require no storage battery to remain so. All aspects of the equalizer’s settings shall be capable of being password protected with a two-level security scheme that will allow access only to the presets.
Specification Writer – Please select ONE or NONE of the following remote control options by deleting those that do not apply. The standard 4700 has NO built-in remote control interface. Option 4701: Contact Closure control IN – PA422 control OUT: This equalizer can accept preset recall dry contact closures and pass the preset number called to downstream units. In addition downstream units can be controlled from the front panel of this unit. Note that this option does not allow remote control from an external computer. The equalizer shall be factory configured to allow remote access of its presets by making appropriate dry contact closures at a connector on the unit’s rear panel (White Instruments option 4701). This configuration shall also allow the preset selection to be passed, via a PA422 output, to another equalizer that is configured with an appropriate
PA422 remote control input interface from the same manufacturer (White Instruments 4700 with 4703 remote control option). Option 4703: PA422 control IN – PA422 control OUT: This is the slave option. Equalizers with this option can stand alone, controlled from the front panel or be included in a network as The equalizer shall be factory configured to allow it to act as a master unit to control other similarly configured units from its front panel and through a PA422 output interface. It shall also be capable of acting as a slave unit to accept control data through a PA422 input interface when networked to other units from the same manufacturer (White Instruments option 4703). The equalizer’s power supply shall be on-board.The unit shall be capable of operating on either 115vac or 230vac, 50Hz or 60Hz, set at the factory. Input and output connections to the equalizer shall be made through screw-terminal or barrier strip connectors. The equalizer shall require no more than 1.75 inches (1RU) of vertical space in a standard 19 inch EIA rack and require no more than 12 inches behind the front panel. The equalizer shall be a Model 4700, factory configured as specified above and manufactured by White Instruments, Austin, Texas U.S.A.
