White Paper Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cabling Specifications English Rev. 1.0.0 / 2010-08-26 UTP – Cabling Specifications 1 Abstract When designing a CCTV system, UTP based structured cabling is a very cost-effective and simple cable network solution when compared to coaxial cable connections. However, some basic principles and technical specifications should be considered before planning the UTP network. This document describes the basic installation requirements and procedures for UTP networks and specifies the maximum UTP cable lengths for analogue Dallmeier UTP cameras to ensure an optimum transmission quality and reliability. 2 Validity This document applies to the following Dallmeier UTP devices and accessories: • DDF3000A4 (Fix Dome) • DDF3000AV4 (Fix Dome) • DDZ3018-YY/RP/A DOMERA® (PTZ Dome) • DDZ30XX-YY/HS/A DOMERA® (PTZ Dome) • DIS-2/M UTP • DIS-2/M StreamerPro UTP • DIS-2/M StreamerPro HDD Large UTP • Power Supply Unit DPU-480W • Power Inserter • VPI-8 3 Requirements In order to avoid crosstalk and unwanted image interference, only use Cat5 cables (or better) for the 100-ohm balanced UTP transmission. 3.1 Colour Coding UTP Cables The following figure illustrates the required colour coding (TIA/EIA-568-B) for unshielded twisted pair cables in conjunction with analogue Dallmeier UTP cameras: Fig. 1: UTP cable with RJ45 (8P8C) eight-pin modular connector Note that RJ45 (8P8C) eight-pin modular connectors must be used to terminate the twisted pair cables. www.dallmeier.com 2 UTP – Cabling Specifications 3.2 Pin/Pair Assignment UTP Cables The following table defines the pin/pair assignment for unshielded twisted pair cables in conjunction with analogue Dallmeier UTP cameras: Pin TIA/EIA-568-B Pair Signal Fix Domes Signal PTZ Domes TIA/EIA-568-B Colour 1 (Tx+) 2 Video (+) Video (+) white/orange stripe 2 (Tx−) 2 Video (−) Video (−) orange/white stripe 3 (Rx+) 3 RS485 (+) white/green stripe 4 1 Power (GND) Power (GND) blue/white stripe 5 1 Power (+) Power (+) white/blue stripe 6 (Rx−) 3 RS485 (−) green/white stripe 7 4 Power (GND) Power (GND) white/brown stripe 8 4 Power (+) Power (+) brown/white stripe Table 1: Pin/Pair assignment UTP cables Video Signal Pin 1 and Pin 2 (Pair 2) are used for a differential video signal. Pin 1 is Video (+), Pin 2 is Video (−). Camera Control and Configuration Dallmeier UTP cameras can be controlled/configured by the Dallmeier UTC1 protocol (Fix Domes) or by RS485 communication signals (PTZ Domes). Pin 3 and Pin 6 (Pair 3) are used for a bi-directional serial communication, e.g. RS485. Power Pin 7 and Pin 8 (Pair 4) are used for power supply. However, it is recommended to short Pin 4 with Pin 7 and Pin 5 with Pin 8. As the effective resistance drops, more power can be transmitted. 1   Up The Coax www.dallmeier.com 3 UTP – Cabling Specifications 4 UTP Applications 4.1 DIS-2/M UTP Series and DPU-480W DDF3000AV4 Fig. 2: UTP application with DIS-2/M StreamerPro UTP, DPU-480W and Power Inserter In order to make the installation process more convenient, Dallmeier Power Inserters should be used. Connect one end of the twisted pair cable to the camera and the other end to the Power Inserter. Then plug the Power Inserter into the DIS-2/M UTP transceiver (e.g. DIS-2/M StreamerPro UTP). Finally, connect the power supply cables of the Power Inserter to an appropriate power supply unit. For the power supply of Dallmeier UTP cameras we recommend the use of the Dallmeier Power Unit DPU-480W (with DPU Power Plug). www.dallmeier.com 4 UTP – Cabling Specifications Fig. 3: Dallmeier Power Inserter with DPU Power Plug 4.1.1 DPU Voltage Selection The DPU-480W is able to output two voltages, 24 V AC or 28 V AC. The voltages can be selected using either: • Pin 1 and Pin 2 for 24 V AC • Pin 2 and Pin 3 for 28 V AC 4.1.2 Default Voltages For the supported cameras the following default voltages should be applied: Camera Type Default Voltage DDF3000A4 DDF3000AV4 DDZ3018-YY/RP/A DOMERA 24 V AC ® DDZ30XX-YY/HS/A DOMERA® 28 V AC Table 2: Default voltages www.dallmeier.com 5 UTP – Cabling Specifications 4.1.3 Maximum Cable Lengths per Camera Recommended cable types: • Cat5 SF/UTP (4×2×AWG24) • Cat7 S/STP (4×2×AWG23) Output Voltage 28 V AC Cable Length Cable Type DDF3000A4 DDF3000AV4 Cat5 (4×2×AWG24) Cat7 (4×2×AWG23) Up to 200 m DDZ3018-YY/RP/A DOMERA® DDZ30XX-YY/HS/A DOMERA® Up to 200 m Up to 150 m Up to 300 m Up to 200 m Table 3: Maximum cable lengths at 28 V AC Output Voltage 24 V AC Cable Length Cable Type DDF3000A4 DDF3000AV4 Cat5 (4×2×AWG24) Cat7 (4×2×AWG23) Up to 200 m DDZ3018-YY/RP/A DOMERA® DDZ30XX-YY/HS/A DOMERA® Up to 150 m Up to 100 m Up to 200 m Up to 125 m Table 4: Maximum cable lengths at 24 V AC 4.2 Video Power Inserter VPI-8 The Video Power Inserter VPI-8 supports either 12 V DC or 24 V AC output voltage for up to 8 analogue Dallmeier UTP cameras (max. 1 A per camera). In principle, we recommend 24 V AC for remote power supply.
