Accessibility | Planning service Sanitary areas are often too small in size and inappropriately equipped with the result that they cannot be used universally. The practical usefulness of sanitary areas is primarily determined by the size and location of the available free space. Due consideration must be given to many aspects in the planning and equipping of such areas for use by disabled persons. The next few pages contain planning examples for washbasin, toilet and shower Standards 510 Functional area washbasin 512 Planning examples washbasin 514 Functional area toilet 516 Planning examples toilet 518 Functional area shower 520 Planning examples shower 522 Unisex accessible corner WC 524 Planning information System S 01 526 Planning examples System S 01 528 Planning recommendation for children 532 HEWI Sanitary | 509 Planning Service areas based on the standards relevant to accessible construction. Planning service | Standards 510 | HEWI Sanitary Standards | Planning service Inclusive Design Inclusive design avoids stigmatisation because it’s a design for all people. Universal product form is therefore the guiding principle of HEWI. The demands made on the planning, development and installation of "accessible buildings" have changed drastically. HEWI, as your reliable partner in the accessible living segment, has refined this topic over the years through selective measures, products and services. Know-how is in demand. And in addition, we offer a unique choice of products to provide you with professional and competent support for the fulfilment of your tasks. In this catalogue, you’ll find important information and planning examples for all of your accessible sanitary spaces. Standards United Kingdom BS 8300:2009 Design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people. Code of practice: BS 8300 applies to the following types of buildings: BS 8300 explains how the built environment can be designed to anticipate, and overcome, restrictions that prevent disabled people making full use of premises and their surroundings. a) Transport and industrial buildings An accessible environment is one which a disabled person can enter and make use of independently or with help from a partner or assistant, including being able to escape in the event of fire or other emergency. d) Refreshment, entertainment and recreation buildings Some facilities can be designed in such a way as to incorporate access for disabled people. In other situations, additional features such as grab bars, touch legible signs and hearing enhancement systems might be needed. b) Administrative and commercial buildings c) Health and welfare buildings e) Buildings for worship f) Educational, cultural and scientific buildings g) Dwellings (for access routes only) and other residential buildings, e.g. hostels, hotels, residential clubs, university and college halls of residence, nursing homes and prisons. The guidance in BS 8300 covers a wide range of disabilities and the use of the built environment by disabled people who can be residents, visitors, spectators, customers, employees, or participants in sports events, performances and conferences. Planning Service BS 8300 gives recommendations for the design of buildings and their approaches to meet the needs of disabled people (including, where appropriate, disabled children). It applies to car parking provision, setting-down points, garaging, access routes to and around all buildings, entrances to and interiors of new buildings. The recommendations also apply to routes to facilities associated with and in the immediate vicinity of buildings. This requires the provision of a wheelchair accessible unisex toilet. Where only one WC compartment can be provided it should be a unisex type, preferably designed for right-hand transfer. Where more than one unisex facility can be accommodated, a choice of left-hand and right-hand transfer layouts should be provided. that door size. The minimum clear overall dimensions of a unisex accessible corner WC compartment should allow the hand rinse basin to be used both from a wheelchair and while a person is seated on the WC, and should allow space for somebody to assist the disabled person. The tap to the basin should be positioned on the side nearest to the WC pan. Minimum room dimensions, as well as the location of sanitary and other fittings, for the standard unisex accessible corner WC should be as shown in the drawing. A unisex accessible corner WC is equipped so that it is also suitable for use by ambulant disabled people. It is important for reasons of personal hygiene that a person seated on the WC can reach the basin to rinse their hands before adjusting their dress. The hand rinse basin within a unisex accessible WC compartment should be set with the rim height at 720 mm to 740 mm above the floor to allow use for hand washing by people standing as well as seated. It is generally possible to use a 926 mm single-swing door for a unisex WC compartment, provided that the door is able to open beyond 90° and that when it does, the projection of door fittings (e.g. the horizontal pull rail) does not reduce the potential effective clear width for The hand rinse basin next to the WC can be at a lower level for use from the WC, provided there is a separate washbasin for ambulant disabled people to use. The use of adjustable height washbasins can accommodate a greater range of people. min. 1500 200 - 250 min. 1000 500 320 150 1 1100 500 - 700 300 600 300 1 500 320 680 480 2 150 min. 1000 min. 1500 Pos. It consists of flat modules, from which internal functions, for example, lift-up support rail, paper towel basket or toilet brush easily move out by means of the "push release" mechanism and after use can be returned back into the module plane. 526 | HEWI Sanitary Washbasin, WC and urinal modules are available. The modules are based on a joint design principle: All elements are functionally positioned in a clearly structured grid. Architectural clarity in the sanitary room is enabled by the multiple arrangements of the modules due to their reduced design. Apart from white and grey, S 01 is also available in brown and red. With the use of an entire module, System S 01 enables efficient planning of sanitary rooms. The HEWI S 01 modules are tendered as complete units. System S 01 | Planning information Product functions Refill soap dispenser Replace toilet roll The toilet roll holder is integrated in the surface, the toilet roll holder is pulled forward using the "Push-Release". The toilet roll can be easily replaced with the internal mandrel. The mandrel roll slides forward along the guide with the removable roll always following it towards the front, so that the paper is ready to grip at the front edge. Stow spare toilet rolls The integrated spare toilet roll holder provides space for toilet rolls. It can be optionally used on the left or right. Planning Service 1 The integrated soap dispenser can be used with one hand and holds 1.2 litre standard liquid soap – it is easy to refill. Using the suction tool (1), the soap dispenser is pulled out from the front like a drawer to enable it to be simply filled from above.
