Invisible Fencing-Freedom for you and your dog oo Pi How can I own a dog and be free from having to keep it on a leash or having to fence in my yard? For that matter, how much freedom does a dog have when it is confined in a dog run or kept in the house all day or tied to a tree? A yard is about the only place a domesticated pooch can legally stretch its legs without a leash around its neck. Of course, the dog's owner has to somehow guarantee that the dog will stay in people living in these communities must give up the idea of letting their pet run free? Not at all. INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) is a product that solves this dilemma. With it, you can customize an electronic boundary for the yard. A fence may seem like the obvious solution, but many communities forbid or restrict their use and many homeowners don't want to detract from the appearance of their properties. The transformer plugs into any convenient 110V outlet, usually in the basement or garage, and cuts household current down to a harmless 12V. The transmitter sends out pulsed, AM-frequency radio signals that won't interfere with radio broadcasts, garage door openers, pacemakers or air communications. Installation of the invisible fence, requires burying a wire around the perimeter of the area where the dog will run and then connecting this wire to a transmitter. When the system is operating, the radio signal is sent from the transmitter to the buried wire. A control on the transmitter is used to set both the intensity and the range of the field which can be varied from 2 to 30 feet. When a dog wearing a collar enters the field, the receiver picks up the AM signal and sounds a warning beep. The dog has one second to back out of the field. If it doesn't, it receives a mild electric shock (0.7 to 1.4 watts) comparable to a static electric shock that you might receive from touching a metal door handle in the winter. There is more to using INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) however, than just installing the components. The dog has to be conditioned to respond to the warning beep. With dogs that have been properly conditioned, INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) has proven to be 99% effective in keeping dogs contained. A comprehensive training manual is provided to guide the pet owner through this process. When the fencing is installed, the installer works with the owner and pet for the first training session. Different dogs learn the system at different rates. Normally, however, a dog receives only 5 mild shocks over its life time. INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) is now available in this area. Here's how it works. You lay a radio-signal emitting wire wherever you wish the boundary to be. If your dog gets too close to the boundary, a radio receiver in its collar picks up the signal and sounds a warning beep. If the dog doesn't back up immediately, it gets a mild electric shock (0.7 to 1.4 watts), which soon teaches it to respond to the warning beep. The INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) system makes especially good sense in areas where leash laws exist and zoning laws limit the use of fencing and prohibit front yard fences. And, it is far less expensive than conventional fencing. The installed price of a half acre property (100'xlOO1) with one dog runs around $1,000. Self installation kits are also avalable at a cost of about $700.. One of the first questions asked by prospective buyers is; "Just how safe is it?" A rather thorough safety test was run by the School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Pennsylvannia. Dogs, under light anesthesia, were subjected to-three hours of intermittent stimulation. There was no evidence of abnormalities to the skin in the area of contact with the collar. There were no changes in the electrocardiogram or heart rate patterns during or following stimulation. Although the SPCA has a firm policy of not endorsing any commercial product, their Philadelphia Public Relations Director chose to talk about the INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) system on a local news special dealing with pets and commented favorably on the system in an article published in the Society's newsletter. INVISIBLE FENCING (TM) is also completely harmless to humans. The buried wire does not carry any electric current, so there cannot be any electric shocks or accidents. It is merely a large radio anttenna, and its' signal is on a frequency that won't interfere with other household signals, such as automatic garage door openers. Pacemakers are also not affected.
