With all that equipment, if something goes wrong it can be tricky to track down the issue. This article explains why your TV isn't playing DVDs and how to get it sorted out. The problem could lie with: The connector cables/connections The DVD disc itself The DVD Player's optical reader (the lens which 'reads' the data from DVDs) The TV The connector cables/connections Before doing anything check all your connector cables; are they securely fastened? Are they in the right place? Are all the electrical sockets in good working order? Has your electricity supply run into difficulty? Make sure that all connections are inserted properly, and that the cables are in the right place. One of the most important connections is the lead which runs between your TV and the DVD Player; if this isn't in place then your TV can't read the media on the DVD Player and the film won't appear on your TV screen. The DVD disc itself Check for scratches, chips, smudges and any other marks. Test the disc isn't faulty by trying a different one in the Player. If the new disc works, then the first one may need replacing. The DVD Player's optical reader (the lens which 'reads' the data from DVDs) There may be a problem with the lens in the DVD drive; follow the guidelines in this Knowhow article explaining how to solve problems with DVD Trays. The TV Try switching channels; many Televisions have a default channel specifically dedicated to DVD players. Have a quick flick between the channels to see if the DVD menu appears. On modern televisions, especially those connected to Digi-boxes or Sky Boxes, there is usually a 'Source' button on the remote control which controls the DVD feed. Find the Source button and flick through this until you reach the right setting for playing DVDs. To return to watching normal Television channels after the movie has ended, simply go back to the source button and flick back to the original source.
