Optimising smart metering systems with Powerline Wireless data transmission characterizes the “smart energy world”. But the use of wireless solutions has a disadvantage. Its range in many cases does not cover the entire building infrastructure, particularly if it is large, such as with multi-family houses or commercial buildings. devolo provides here a new, intelligent networking solution based on in-house Powerline. Many smart meters send their data wirelessly to a dLAN® Powerline solution, which serves as an OMS repeater, for example. Through the use of the power line as the central communication cabling in a building, all rooms and intelligent metering systems are reached. In doing so, Powerline communicates with a high bandwidth, has automatic data encryption and is simultaneously just as cost-efficient in purchasing and installation as a wireless solution.
dLAN® 200 AV USB extender as an OMS repeater – an intelligent solution for smart metering In this application example, the consumption data for electricity, heat/gas and water is measured on multiple stories of the building. The individual smart meters are each equipped with a wireless technology and transmit the data wirelessly to a dLAN® 200 AV USB extender, which is located on each floor. It receives the data, in this case, via an Amber Wireless USB dongle. Through corresponding software, the wireless data is packaged in Ethernet packets, forwarded via the mains supply, and converted via a second adapter back into wireless data at the target location. In this way, the consumption information can be transmitted in real time to the respective energy provider.
