You only need to do this once. Insert the CD. If your computer is set to Auto-run CDs just follow the on-screen instructions. Otherwise, double-click on My Computer, and then double-click on the CD icon. Double-click Setup.exe to run the installer. Running WizKeys Click on the Start button, then on Programs, then on Maxess to find WizKeys. Using WizKeys WizKeys can send text into any word processor, spreadsheet, or similar application. Here, it is shown sending text to Microsoft Word. To write in this way, first click inside the application window where you want to send your text. Then you can write by clicking on the letters or whole words on the WizKeys keyboard. WizKeys WizKeys styles WizKeys can be presented in different ways, depending on your needs: Using WizKeys with mouse control utility With this method, letters are chosen using ‘dwell-select’. This involves resting the on-screen pointer in a particular position for a pre-determined length of time to make a selection. If you do not have the mouse button features visible on your WizKeys keyboard, then you need to turn them on.     • Click on the Settings button (top right hand corner of WizKeys keyboard).     •  Click on the Mouse Buttons tab.     • Click the Mouse Buttons On tick box to leave a tick in the box. For a description of what the mouse buttons and other special WizKeys buttons do, see the ‘Special buttons on the WizKeys keyboard’ section of this manual. WizKeys with mouse control utility WizKeys Using WizKeys without mouse button utility Here you can select letters by pointing and clicking using the mouse or equivalent, or use a touch monitor or whiteboard. If the mouse buttons are visible on the keyboard it is advisable to take them off so that mouse button control is not switched on by accident (they can easily be restored when needed).     • Click on the Settings button (top right hand corner of WizKeys keyboard).     •  Click on the Mouse Buttons tab.     •  Click the Mouse Buttons On tick box to remove the tick. WizKeys keyboard without prediction If prediction is not required, simply click on the Words button on the top left of the WizKeys keyboard (see below). Click on it again to bring prediction back. WizKeys Mouse button control only This provides the mouse control features only, when you don’t require control of the on-screen keyboard. It enables you to see more of the screen, for example, when using a web browser. Click on the Keys button to access this mode. The WizKeys keyboard will temporarily disappear, leaving the mouse keys available (see below): To bring back the WizKeys keyboard, simply click on the Keys button again. WizKeys Minimised WizKeys This mode temporarily makes WizKeys shrink out of the way, leaving only the Keys button on the screen. To minimise WizKeys, the ‘Mouse Buttons’ option must be switched off in the settings (see ‘Mouse button utility’ on page 9). Click on Keys to minimise or restore WizKeys. Special buttons on the WizKeys keyboard The ‘Words’ button This button switches the predictive word list on and off. The ‘Mouse’ Buttons These are positioned at the top of the WizKeys window. (If you cannot see them, you need to go to the ‘Settings’ menu to turn this feature on. See ‘Mouse button utility’ on page 9.) Mouse Button 1 If you ‘dwell’ the on-screen pointer over this button for a pre-determined length of time, it will turn on the mouse button controls. Once you have done this, any subsequent dwell anywhere on the screen will be equivalent to a single mouse click. WizKeys Mouse Button 2 With ‘Mouse Button 2’ activated, the second mouse button from the left performs a double click. Mouse Button 3 With ‘Mouse Button 3’ activated, this button performs a drag function. Mouse Button 4 With ‘Mouse Button 4’ activated, this button performs a right click. The ‘Move WizKeys’ button This button quickly and easily moves WizKeys so that you can view more of the screen. Clicking it again restores its original position. The ‘Keys’ button This button minimises WizKeys so that you can see the whole screen. If the ‘Mouse Buttons’ option is switched on, this function will leave the Mouse Buttons, the Move WizKeys and Keys buttons on the screen. If ‘Mouse Buttons’ is switched off, only the Keys button will remain. Click on it to restore WizKeys. The ‘Exit’ button This is used to close down WizKeys. The ‘Settings’ button This button is used to access the WizKeys settings. (See page 9 for more information.) WizKeys WizKeys Settings Mouse button utility This emulates the single click, double click, right click and drag features of the mouse by simply ‘dwelling’ the pointer over an item for a predetermined length of time. Click on Settings (right-hand corner of the WizKeys keyboard) and then on the Mouse Button tab.     • Click the Mouse Buttons On tick box to turn this feature on or off.     •  Click on OK. Adjusting the mouse control ‘dwell time’ To adjust the dwell time, either click on the buttons at each end of the dwell control slider or simply drag the slider until the required dwell time appears in the box. Adjusting the ‘Dither Box’ size The ‘Dither Box’ is the area within which the on-screen pointer needs to stay during the dwell time in order to select an item. To adjust its size, either click on the buttons at either end of the Dwell Size slider or simply drag the slider. WizKeys Prediction Word prediction supports users with access difficulties by reducing the number of key presses required to input text. It also helps those who might benefit from support with spellings, such as people with literacy difficulties or foreign language students. To view or change the prediction settings:     •  Choose Settings on the top right-hand corner of WizKeys.     •  Click on the Prediction Settings tab. Number of predictions to display The number of predictions displayed can be changed by clicking on the arrows at the side of the box that says ‘Number of predictions to display (1-9)’. It is recommended that users try out different numbers of predictions to see which suits them best. Having more predictions does not necessarily result in quicker typing because there are more words to scan through. Learn new words This feature can be turned on or off, depending on the level of the user’s spelling skills and/or their level of skill in accessing WizKeys. If this feature is switched on the user can very quickly improve their speed of writing because the system becomes personalised, for example with names of members of the family, etc. To turn this feature on or off, either select or unselect the Ignore New Words button. 10 WizKeys Auto Capitalisation This feature automatically inserts a space after a full stop has been selected and begins the new sentence with a capital letter. In addition, if there is a space following the word at the end of the previous sentence, it will be automatically deleted. The feature also adds a space after commas and some other selected punctuation. To switch this feature on or off, either select or unselect the Auto Capitalisation button. Word Endings This offers a different way of using prediction, by providing a choice of word endings. If an ellipsis (...) is seen at the end of the word, for example, ‘walk…’, a choice of word endings is offered, e.g. ‘walks’, ‘walking’, ‘walked’. This method may be more satisfying for some people, depending on their writing style, and can be helpful for those with language or spelling difficulties as well as people learning the English language. Editing words used for prediction WizKeys comes with a large vocabulary. You can add new words to it or delete words if required. If the ‘Learn New Words’ feature is selected, WizKeys will temporarily store all new words that are not already in its vocabulary under the ‘Edit New Words’ feature. You can then choose to add them to the vocabulary or delete misspelt words: Edit New Words     • Click on the Edit New Words button. An ‘Edit’ window will appear.     • Highlight any word that you want to delete by clicking on it. (Scroll down if necessary.)     • Click on the Delete button for each word you want to remove.       •  When you have finished deleting unwanted words, click on Save. Any remaining words will be saved to the WizKeys vocabulary. WizKeys 11 Edit Words Here you can delete words that are already in the WizKeys vocabulary.   • Click on the Edit Words button to make the ‘Edit’ window appear.   • Scroll down and highlight any word that you want to delete by clicking on it.   •  Click on the Delete button.   •  When you have finished, click on Save. The words you have not deleted are saved to the WizKeys vocabulary. To turn prediction on or off Please note that if you want to switch the word prediction on and off simply click on the Words button towards the top left-hand corner of the WizKeys keyboard.
