WNR1004 (2T2R) AP mode setup 1) Ensure the mode switch on the WNR1004 is set to router mode (switch on top). Power on the WNR1004. Connect to your WNR1004 wireless network. The default name will be PROLiNK_WNR1004_xxxxx, where xxxxx is the last 5 character of the Mac address of your device. The Mac address can be found at the label pasted on the bottom of the unit.
2) Once connected, open your web browser (eg IE or Safari). 3) Click Advance setup when you see Easy Setup Wizard.
4) Click on wireless, basic. i) Change SSID from the default to your own preference eg Myname. ii) Change channel width to 20MHz if you will be using iphone or Macbook, iMac or ipad. iii) Change channel width to 11. iv) Click Apply Changes.
5) Click reboot later.
6) Click on Security. i) Change Encryption to WPA2 for best security and performance. Choose WPA if you are still using older OS like Win XP. ii) Choose AES for WPA2 Cipher Suite. iii) Enter your desired password under pre-shared key (min of 8 characters). iv) Click Apply changes.
7) Click reboot now and wait for the count down to end.
8) Set the mode switch to centre position for AP.
9) Connect a Lan cable (RJ45) from the Lan point in the hotel room or your wireless router to the ethernet port of the WNR1004. 10) Scan for the wireless network and look for the name of the wireless network you have changed to eg Myname and click connect.
11) Enter the passphrase you have set in step 6. And click OK. Once connected, you should be able to access internet.
Below steps are used only when you use the internet service in hotels that provide paid for service and requires an account name and password to log in. 12) If your hotel requires you to enter an account name and password to access, you can only use one device to connect to their network. If you wish to share internet in this case, you can try to do a Mac clone first on the first device (eg laptop) and then log in with the account name and password. Then connect your other device like iphone or android phone etc to the wireless of the WNR1004. To do Mac clone, please follow the steps below. 13) Under router mode (switch in router position), go to network, internet service setup. Click Fill my Mac. You will see some characters appear to the left of the button. Click Apply Changes and then reboot now.
14) Set the mode switch to AP mode (centre position). 15) Log on to the hotel internet service with the account name and password. Once you can surf, you can connect your other devices. 16) Do note that hotels may have sophisticated system to detect that you have multiple devices connected even with the Mac clone enabled. You may see that on your second device connected to the WNR1004, when you try to surf, you are still prompted to enter another account name and password. In this case, you can only connect using 1 device on the WNR1004 unless you are willing to pay for another internet account to use.
