Woodway Treadmill Safety Information: Loose/baggy clothing should not be worn or placed on the running belt of the treadmill. The area behind the treadmill must be clear and at least 2 metres away from walls or furniture. The WOODWAY treadmill is designed for runners with a maximum body weight of 159kg and a maximum speed of 40 km/h. Never get off the treadmill while the running belt is moving. Always use the handles or a railing when possible. Always ensure that suitable, non-slip shoes are worn. Check there are no stones/other objects lodged in the soles of the shoes before beginning exercise. The treadmill should be switched off when adjusting settings or when any other work is being carried out in the vicinity of the treadmill. Ensure that you have had appropriate training and have read the relevant operator’s manual/s and any specific documentation prior to using the equipment. Please read or refer to the following Risk Assessment/s before using this equipment: o 2013.0718RA_exercise_ergometry o 2013.0124RA_woodway_treadmill Installation: The treadmill must be installed on a flat, sufficiently firm floor surface. General Operation: 1. Switch on the treadmill by pressing the “ON” button. Make sure that the emergency solenoid is in the correct position; otherwise the display will not light up. After the treadmill has been switched on, the start picture appears with the wording “initialisation, please wait a minute”.

2. When a button appears with the wording “START”, press it to access the main menu. If the start picture is accompanied by the wording “no connection to treadmill” there is a communication fault. If this is the case, check connective wiring. 3. You can then select the mode you require from the main menu: Manual Mode: In this mode you can manually change the speed and incline of the treadmill. This can be done from the main computer module or from control panel on the railing. You can adjust the display modes for speed (e.g., km/h, m/s, mph) if you wish. Training Programs: In this mode you can select from preprogrammed training schedules where the speed and incline will change automatically. This can be accessed by selecting the “Start Program” button from the main menu. For information on how to program training schedules into the woodway see the end of this SOP. Automatic Pulse Mode: In this mode, the treadmill is controlled in such a way that a target heart rate is maintained as closely as possible, by adjusting the speed and incline accordingly. In this mode, a polar heart rate strap compatible with the woodway treadmill is worn. Entering “Pre-Set” Training Programs: It is possible to input and edit new automatic training programs in the “Select Program” menu. - A list of saved programs will show up, as well as options to “Compile Programs” (where new programs can be entered) and “Change Programs” (where currently saved programs can be edited). - Once selected, the menu will show values for speed, incline, duration, start-up acceleration and distance, which can then be edited. - The buttons “Insert” and “Delete” refer to the currently shown step of the protocol. To insert a new step in the middle of a protocol, highlight the place where you want the step added and press “Insert”. All the steps, including the current step, will be moved one step backwards and an empty step will be inserted. - To add a step at the end, press the plus button when the last step is shown.

- Once all the steps have been entered, give the protocol a name using the “program name” button. - Press the “Save” button to save the protocol. Maintenance of the Woodway Treadmill: Regular cleaning and inspection can make an essential contribution to lengthening the service life and attractive appearance of the treadmill. Before doing any cleaning work, the treadmill must be switched off and disconnected. Cleaning At the end of each testing session - Clean the railings, the manual display and the outer coverings. - Check the mains leads for cracks, cuts and exposed wires - Check the overall condition of the treadmill - Clean the area underneath the treadmill (dustpan and brush or ideally a vacuum cleaner). Every 6 months - Clean the treadmill on the inside with a vacuum cleaner - Check all nuts and screws are on tightly - Clean the surface of the treadmill - Spray the surface of treadmill with anti-static spray - Check the drive belts - Replace any frayed belts - Check the motor brushes - The brushes must be replaced when less that 12mm in length. - Clean the treadmill motor on the inside to remove any carbon dust - Apply a light coating of grease to the drive belt.
