Avid AS3000 server BIOS update guidance document Document Overview: The Avid hardware engineering group in concert with the hardware vendor are recommending that the BIOS be updated to attend to memory related items found post the product release. The steps are noted below and in the Appendix are the steps for the creation of the required USB Bootable Flash drive that is required. Please read, print, and observe the steps calling out the power off / remove power for the updates to be applied properly. It is possible to put the system into a failed state if the power change steps are not followed. Actions to update the motherboard: 1.1
Boot off a USB Drive 1.1.1
Install the USB key in the front USB slot.

During boot up press Delete key, to enter the BIOS Setup.

Go to BOOT and Hard Disk Drives.

Make 1st drive the USB drive.

Go to Boot Device Priority and make sure 1 Boot Device is the USB drive.

Press F10 and answer yes.

The system will boot off the USB drive and present you with a menu similar to this.

Select Option 1. The BIOS will update automatically.

Answer y (yes) to do you want to load? This is the slowest part of the process so please be patient!

Update Thermal Profile 1.5.1
Select Option 3

The Thermal Profile will update.

The fans will speed up and slow down a few times.

At the end the word PASS will be displayed.

Verify the processor speed correlates to the CPU on order and the count is 2.

Appendix A: How to build a FreeDOS bootable thumb drive and apply the AIC Castor motherboard update BIOS firmware 2.0
Locate the following items and build a local repository of the files. 2.1
Locate and / or build a USB Flash Drive to have a DOS Bootable setup to allow the BIOS updates to be installed on the AS3000 server Castor Motherboard. There are several published schemes on how to do this. 2.1.1

Place all of the files onto the root of the USB (replace the existing AutoExec.bat file).
