So you can shorten your turnaround times and make your operators even more productive. But, when your customers send you jobs with complex job assembly requirements such as merging pages, scanning hard-copy pages, defining sections and inserting tabs – you risk not delivering the job to the customer on time. In Color Profiler Suite 4.5, we give you the ability to create profiles that will be used in an environment other than the D50 standard lighting that is typically used in a color-management light booth. The popular Fiery make-ready tools, such as Fiery Impose, launch from the Fiery Command WorkStation® interface and offer you a flexible, easy and effortless solution your operators will love. To adjust the lighting condition when making a profile, launch the application and create a new profile. In the Fiery Printer Profiler settings window, change the lighting value to the lighting condition that you will view and proof the prints in. For example, you can select commercial florescent or incandescent home lighting. You can then make prints for your customers to use in a specific lighting environment. Because the colors will look correct in their lighting, you can increase your customers’ satisfaction. With Fiery Color Profiler Suite, you can now achieve accurate and consistent color matching in the actual ambient lighting conditions that will be used for viewing proofs or prints. This improves the color appearance of your printed output for the lighting it was intended to be viewed in. The latest addition to these integrated make-ready solutions is Fiery JobMaster which provides advanced PDF-based job-preparation functions. Intuitive document assembly includes fully visual tab insertion and design; media assignment, page numbering, finishing and scanning; plus powerful late-stage editing features. See for yourself how you can use Fiery make-ready tools to set up a complex catalog for printing without any manual job assembly – all in 10 easy steps on our JobMaster resources and training page. Color Profiler Suite 4.5 also gives you the ability to select “create custom” in the drop-down menu for the lighting value in Fiery Printer Profiler. You will need a light meter or another tool that can measure your ambient lighting condition. Input your custom light values into the Printer Profiler to be sure your printed output looks accurate and visually pleasing. Bleed Edge Tabs Click here to learn about more features in Color Profiler Suite 4.5. See the Speed in 10 Easy Steps One of the newest features in Fiery JobMaster is the Bleed Edge Tabs. It’s a great way to establish document sections by printing the tab content on the edge of the page. This feature doesn’t require the use of tab media, and it automatically applies bleed-edge tab settings to all pages in the chapter, with incremental tab position for each successive chapter. Learn how to prepare and print a calendar booklet with this how-to guide that walks you through the process step-by-step. Standards Create Processes Print buyers have learned to value print providers that have the process control to adhere to a color standard and keep their printing equipment within given tolerances at all times. Print providers can differentiate themselves from competitors with hard facts, and can charge a premium for state-of-the-art process control that will provide a more consistent and reliable print product. Fiery Impose is an optional server-based application that streamlines and automates the imposition process, making production more efficient. Impose delivers imposition technology that is completely WYSIWYG and easy to use, with a full range of capabilities in one powerful package. By employing a workflow based on Adobe® Portable Document Format (PDF), Impose allows operators to create unlimited userdefinable templates. Standardizing Superwide There are a couple of reasons why we are still in the starting phase when it comes to process control and standardization in wide to superwide printing: Documents with complex finishing requirements such as this calendar are good examples of applications with sophisticated layout preparation activities like changing the orientation of specific pages of a job. • Size of customers – The larger the print buyer, the more likely they are to have interest in getting consistent product. • Profitability – Wide to superwide printing has still very healthy profit margins that allow print providers to compensate for the lack of process control with expensive trial-and-error processes and costly re-prints. Download the calendar and how-to guide today. • Variables – Wide-format environments are simply working with significantly more variables. This can make standardization more complex, and is probably the biggest hurdle. Successful Connect 14 Users’ Conference EFI featured over 200 sessions covering every product. New this year was the Fiery session, “Experts Talk About Color Standards.” The color panel consisted of Raymond Cheydleur, OEM Technical Manager – Xrite Inc., Peter Constable, Senior Manager, Image & Color Technologies at Coach. Also joining the panel were Jim Tomblinson, Director of Operations at Modern Litho and Dennis Riggs, President and CEO of Mound Printing. Lou Prestia, Product Line Manager for Fiery (including the award winning Fiery Color Profiler Suite) moderated. Attendees enjoyed a lively discussion on real world issues around color and were able to get their color questions answered directly from the experts. Luckily we are seeing a lot of progress in the standards groups. They appear to have realized the challenges of different media and are offering solutions to standardize a printing process. As always, the standard is the International Standard Organization (ISO) but the FOGRA and IDEAlliance provide tools to get to this standard and with the certifications/qualifications to prove that the standards are achieved. Be Prepared for the Future Standardizing your wide to superwide production environment will initially create more work for you. But long term, it will help you produce better, more consistent and repeatable work. It will help you create a lean and effective environment that reduces costly reprints and trial-and-error color adjustments. At the same time, you can keep margins high since you increase your added value to your customers with a more consistent product and exact match to their expectations. Standardizing will help you position yourself as a premium print provider – ensuring added value to larger customers and creating a tighter relationship with your clients.
