Which kind of extinguisher should I use?
Emergency Procedures
Annexe & Workshop The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) classifies fires into five general categories (U.S.):
Class C
fires involve flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline, kerosene, and common organic solvents used in the laboratory. fires involve energized electrical equipment, such as appliances, switches, panel boxes, power tools, hot plates and stirrers. Water can be a dangerous extinguishing medium for class C fires because of the risk of electrical shock unless a specialized water mist extinguisher is used.
Class D
fires involve combustible metals, such as magnesium, titanium, potassium and sodium as well as pyrophoric organometallic reagents such as alkyllithiums, Grignards and diethylzinc. These materials burn at high temperatures and will react violently with water, air, and/or other chemicals. Handle with care!!
Class K
fires are kitchen fires. This class was added to the NFPA portable extinguishers Standard 10 in 1998. Kitchen extinguishers installed before June 30, 1998 are "grandfathered" into the standard. 14

Fire procedures Note: The main detailed fire safety policy, precautions and procedures are outlined in the Guiseley Theatre Fire risk assessment and the policy for children should be cross referenced with that document. All hirers and users will have a copy of the Fire safety policy and instructions Seating in the Theatre for children attending performances or other functions and events
All children should be treated with respect and dignity and the welfare of children should be put first. Ensure that users and hirers are aware of their responsibilities on child welfare and protection and particularly the requirement to provide an adequate number of supervisors who can provide care for children in dressing rooms and as they move from stage to dressing room, to toilet facilities etc. Also the best practice of user groups nominating a dedicated Child Protection Officer as appropriate within their own organisation. Supervisors should be clear that bullying will not be accepted or condoned and that action will be taken to stop any inappropriate verbal or physical behaviour. Hirers and users to be made aware of the Guiseley Theatre Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Policy and the requirement for CRB checks as appropriate. Provide safe, adequate and separate dressing room facilities for child performers. Ensure that users and hirers are aware of the requirements to provide adequate supervision for the numbers of children involved within the dressing room facilities. Provide adequate toilet facilities for child performers and supervision in accompanying children between dressing room and toilets if not co-located. All hirers and users will be advised of general health and safety issues that may impact children together with the location of first aid equipment and the accident book. Children are not allowed in the kitchen facilities, in the sound or lighting rooms or underneath the stage. Hirers and users will be advised that they must ensure that all special effects used in performances are suitable for the children involved in the performance and that the production director, the stage manager and the technicians have the responsibility to ensure that children are safe on stage. Theatre users and hirers will provide an adequate number of supervisors who are aware of fire and evacuation procedures, to ensure that all children and vulnerable adults can be led to safety and accounted for in case of an evacuation or emergency. All supervisors to receive instruction on the fire procedures applicable to the venue prior to the arrival of the children, young person or vulnerable adult.
No child shall be permitted to occupy the front row of the balcony unless accompanied by and in the charge of a person who has attained the age of 18 years. Hirers and users will be advised that the ratio of supervisors (Theatre or hirers staff) to be stationed in areas and at exits where children are seated within the Theatre will be 1 supervisor to 25 children. Where children are accompanied by an adult supervisor such organisers will be regarded as supervisors for this purpose. Supervisors to ensure the safe dispersal of children at the end of performances or other events.

www.guiseleytheatre.org CHILD & VULNERABLE ADULT SAFEGUARDING & PROTECTION POLICY (Also part of the Health and Safety Risk Assessment) Policy statement: The Guiseley Theatre Management Committee recognises its duty of care under the Children and Young Persons Act 1963, the Child (Performances) Regulations 1968, the Protection of Children Act 1999 and the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000. The committee recognises that the welfare of the child, young person and vulnerable adult is paramount. All children, young people and vulnerable adults, whatever their age, culture, disability, gender, language, racial origin, religious belief and sexual identity, have the right to protection from abuse. All suspicions and allegations of abuse should be taken seriously and responded to swiftly and appropriately. All Members / Volunteers acting on behalf of Guiseley (AOS) Theatre should be clear about how to respond appropriately in relation to young and vulnerable people. All committee members and volunteers have a responsibility to report concerns to the police, social services or other appropriate authority. The chairman or vice chairman should be informed in every case whether or not outside agencies have also been informed. We will endeavour to ensure the safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults both attending the theatre as performers, as part of the theatre audience and attending functions or other events. The obligation to ensure children, young people and vulnerable adults are protected from accident, injury or abuse is fulfilled by ensuring that all theatre users and hirers are aware of the particular requirements and practices within our policy for the protection of such people. These requirements are also outlined in Part 22 of the Guiseley Theatre Health and Safety Risk Assessment which is reviewed annually. The key points of the Policy and Practice are outlined as follows on P12:
