An exploding battery or leaking battery fluid may result in fire, injury and burns. Avoid placing the product in unstable conditions. Failure to do so may cause injury. Stop operation immediately when something is wrong with the product. When smoke goes up from the product or the smell of smoke comes from the product, continued use will result in fire. Immediately remove the battery and the battery charger, and contact your dealer. Do not assign more than one transmitter to the same channel. The noise generated when the power switch of the product is turned on may cause damage to the speaker, and an excessively loud volume that may damage listeners’ ears. Do not swing the product around on its strap. The strap might come off, resulting in personal injury or damage to the product. Insert the battery with correct polarity (+, –). If reversed, the battery may explode or battery fluid leak out, resulting in fire, injury or soiling. Do not use NiCd batteries. These could cause internal damage, resulting in a fire. [Precautions for use] • Operating temperature: 5 °C - 35 °C {41 °F - 95 °F} When calculating the battery life, note that temperatures below 10 °C {50 °F} shorten the battery duration. • Do not disassemble the product or touch internal parts. • Battery power is slightly consumed even when the power of this product is OFF. If the battery is left unused, that may result in liquid leakage. To prevent this, remove the battery from the product when unused for a long time. • Exercise care when using the product in high places. If it falls down, it may cause personal injury or suffer damage. • Do not use or leave the battery in places where it will be exposed to high temperatures, such as in strong direct sunlight, in a sun-heated car, by the fire, or in front of a stove. • Do not touch the battery poles or contacts inside the battery cover with dirty hands. Otherwise poor contact or noise may result. If dirty, wipe off with a dry soft cloth. The contacts inside the battery cover tend to get dirty. Clean them regularly (about once a month) with ethyl alcohol. Do not use solvents, such as benzine or thinner, or a metal polish. Otherwise the contacts may become deformed or discolored, or the brass plating may come off. • Do not use a deteriorated or short-circuited battery. A battery in this condition may leak fluid, overheat and cause damage. • The product is not made to drip-proof specification. Do not use the product with the wet hands in a place where it is directly exposed to water. • Do not cover the infrared emitter with hands, clothes, or labels, etc. Otherwise the sound will be blocked or interrupted. • Do not swing the product around on the neck strap. To prevent strangling, the closure of the strap provided for hanging the product around the neck is designed to give way under pressure. If swung around on the neck strap, the closure will open and the product will fly away, resulting in personal injury or damage to the product. • Maintain a distance of 50 cm {19-11/16"} between infrared wireless microphones and a distance of 2 m {7'} or more between the infrared wireless microphone and the infrared sensor. Radio frequencies may cause interference. • The product is designed for indoor use. • Use the product in a location where it is relatively shielded from noise produced by rotating machinery, transformers or the ignition system or automobiles. • Do not place the product on top of heatgenerating equipment, such as powered amplifiers, video monitors or measuring instruments, and do not leave it in a closed car in hot summer. When storing the product, do so in a dry place. 5 • Walls or people located between the infrared wireless microphone and the infrared sensor will block infrared radiation, so that no sound will be heard. • The product is high-precision adjusted; exposing it to strong impact or dropping it on the floor may change its characteristics. Handle the product with due care. Do not expose the product to shock or impact as this will cause the audio output of the infrared receiver to give off noise on impact. Product care • Clean the power source with a dry cloth. • Do not clean with volatile liquids such as benzine and thinner. • When using a chemical cloth for cleaning, observe the cautions provided with that product. Useful hints • Noise prevention Turn off the power of this product, and turn down the volume of a powered amplifier, mixer, etc. before replacing, removing or inserting the battery, as this might produce a large noise from these devices. • For a clear sound without noise content, use the product at a distance of up to 8 m {26'} from the infrared sensor. When you get a lot of noise, use the product as close as possible to the infrared sensor, within a range of 2 m to 8 m {7' - 26'}. Using the product within a distance of 2 m {7'} from the infrared sensor may cause crossover to unused channels and interference. • Volume control When the volume control from this product goes wrong, move closer to the infrared sensor or change positions and then try again to adjust the volume. It can be used in combination with the following infrared products (hereinafter, receiver). (as of June 2009) U.S. and Canadian fields: Infrared Receiver (WX-LR100), Infrared Receiver/Amplifier (WXLA20, WX-LA50), Infrared Wireless Powered Speaker (WX-LP100) European and Asian fields: Infrared Receiver (WX-LR100/A, WX-LR100/B), Infrared Receiver/ Amplifier (WX-LA20, WX-LA50), Infrared Wireless Powered Speaker (WX-LP100) • The use of a PLL synthesized system allows selecting one out of four available frequencies (1 of 4 channels). • The transmitting channel is changed by operating a channel selector. • The product can derive its power supply from a rechargeable battery (AA size), a dry cell (AA/LR6 size) or a charger (option). (☞ page 30) • Connection of the charger (WX-LZ150) to this product allows our nickel metal hydride battery to be charged. • Connecting an external microphone or any other external sound source to the product’s microphone input terminal or external input terminal will allow you to transmit audio to the receiver. • The audio level (volume) output to the receiver can be adjusted on the microphone. Caution about interception of transmission This product is a wireless system using infrared, and the transmission and reception of audio signals are possible within the range that the infrared can reach. If any third party is within the range of the infrared, the audio signals can reach anywhere unless there are obstacles (such as walls). Therefore, if there is no action taken to prevent interception, malicious third parties may listen to content by intercepting the infrared intentionally. In order to handle this problem, you may set up infrared shielding materials such as shade curtains to close the transmitting and receiving range to reduce the interception. We would like you to fully understand the risks of using this product without taking precautions for interception, and we recommend you take your own preventative measures. If interception occurs due to negligence or the specifications of the infrared wireless, we shall not take any responsibility for the damages that are caused thereby. 7 Major operating controls and their functions q N OW OTHER LIN E MIC IN y CHG BATT !4 w r WX-LT350 e t u AUDIO IN !5 i !3 o IN 3.3V CT MUTE PWR F SE LE !2 !1 !0 Rear view Battery cover removed !6 123 !7 4 1 2 3 4 (inside the battery cover) !8 8 CH F2 4 3 4 123 2 1 F1 !9 q Microphone opening This opening picks up the speaker’s voice. w Infrared emitter Emits infrared light and transmits audio signals. In this case, install a new dry cell or charge the rechargeable battery. • The battery indicator lights red • The battery indicator does not light Note: • Do not touch the battery poles with hands. Otherwise poor contact or noise may result. If dirty, wipe off with a dry soft cloth. • Battery power is slightly consumed even when the power of this product is OFF. If the battery is left unused, that may result in liquid leakage. To prevent this, remove the battery from the product when unused for a long time. Push up the battery cover to the direction of the arrow in the figure, and fit it to its original position. 5 Confirm that the battery indicator lights. Press the [PWR/MUTE] button for 1 second or more, turn on the power of the microphone, and confirm that the battery indicator lights green or orange. 21 Charging a rechargeable battery Charge indicator WX-LT350 OTHER SE CT E CHG BATT LE L IN MUTE 4 F N OW PWR Input terminal DC plug 1 [PWR/MUTE] button DC input terminal 3 2 To AC outlet 5 Battery Charger WX-LZ150 22 Power plug Power cable (Plug type differs depending on the locality.) 1 Turn off all microphones. 2 Connect the power cable to the input terminal of the battery charger (WX-LZ150). 3 Connect the power plug of the power cable to the AC outlet. 4 Connect the DC plug of the charger to the DC input terminal of the microphone. When inserting the DC plug into the DC input terminal, align the triangle mark (D) of the DC plug with that (D) of the microphone. To charge two microphones at the same time, connect one DC plug each to the DC input terminals. To charge one microphone at a time, leave the free DC plug lying nearby. After connecting the microphone to the charger, the charge indicator (red) indicates the charging status as follows: ON: Charging. OFF: Charging completed, or no battery installed. Blinking: Indicates one of the following conditions. • A dry cell or deteriorated rechargeable battery is installed. Install a rechargeable battery instead of a dry cell, or a new rechargeable battery. • The temperature of the battery may be out of the acceptable range. Confirm that the temperature is within the acceptable range. 5 When charging is completed, disconnect the power plug from the AC outlet. Important: • Do not charge batteries other than our nickel metal hydride batteries. To charge batteries other than our batteries, use a dedicated charger. • It is impossible to charge the battery while using the microphone. • If the microphone is connected to the charger with the power turned on, the microphone will be powered off and charging will start. • If the microphone is turned on during the charging process, charging will stop and the microphone will be operated by the power from the charger. In this case, unplug another microphone from the charger. Note: • If the charger remains connected after charging is completed, it will not restart charging to make up for any amount lost due to self-discharge. • If you always use the microphone with the charger connected, do not install a battery. • If the microphone is turned off and the charger is connected, but the charge indicator does not light, check to see that the DC plug of the charger is properly plugged into the DC input terminal, the power cable of the charger into the charger, and the power plug of the charger into the AC outlet. • Charging takes up to 8 hours, but the charging time varies depending on the battery type and status of use. • Charging at a temperature outside the normal range may result in significantly longer charging times. Note, however, that charging times may become longer even within the operating temperature range, if the temperature of the microphone is higher or lower than the normal condition. • The charger and the microphone may get hot slightly during charging. • Do not charge a rechargeable battery that has just been fully charged. Otherwise you will shorten the life of the battery. • For a new rechargeable battery charged for the first time, or a battery that has been out of use for some time (3 months or more) a one-time charge will not be sufficient, so that the microphone may be serviceable for a shorter time than the normal condition. This is due to the characteristic of rechargeable batteries. Battery duration can usually be restored to normal levels by repeatedly charging and discharging (using the microphone) 2 to 3 times. • If an attempt is made to charge a microphone in which a dry cell is installed, the microphone detects automatically that a dry cell is installed in it, charging will not start, and the charge indicator will blink. Note, however, that automatic detection may take some time depending on the type and condition of the battery, and the charge indicator may be lit in the meantime. • If you try to recharge a nearly fully charged rechargeable battery at low temperature, the rechargeable battery may, in rare cases, be mistaken for a dry cell and the charge indicator may blink. • Also read the operating instructions of the charger (WX-LZ150). 23 Replacing the neck strap • When replacing the neck strap, turn off the power of the microphone, and make sure that the microphone is not connected to the charger. Remove the neck strap from the microphone. 1 Hold two portions of one side of strap with your fingers firmly, and push the portions toward the center of the clip. Clip Hold and push. Neck strap 2 While pinching the clip to open, pull the strap out of the claw. Pinch. Pull out. Claw Remove the other side of the neck strap in the same way. When attaching a neck strap to the microphone, hook each side of the strap to each claw, and reverse the above procedure. After the neck strap is attached to the microphone, make sure both sides of neck strap are hooked to the claws. Neck strap Claw Clip Important: • Use only the neck strap that is intended for this microphone. (This neck strap is provided with a safety closure to prevent strangling.) Otherwise, that may result in accidental injury. 24 Troubleshooting Before asking for repairs, check the symptoms with the following table.
