Admonishments Important safety admonishments are used throughout this manual to warn of possible hazards to persons or equipment. An admonishment identifies a possible hazard and then explains what may happen if the hazard is not avoided. The admonishments — in the form of Dangers, Warnings, and Cautions — must be followed at all times. These warnings are flagged by use of the triangular alert icon (seen below), and are listed in descending order of severity of injury or damage and likelihood of occurrence. Danger: Danger is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that will cause severe personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the hazard is not avoided. Warning: Warning is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that can cause severe personal injury, death, or substantial property damage if the hazard is not avoided. Caution: Caution is used to indicate the presence of a hazard that will or can cause minor personal injury or property damage if the hazard is not avoided.

DESCRIPTION The X-Aisle Trough System is an adjustable fiber trough designed to manage and protect fiber optic cables routed between two x-aisle FDF or NG3 racks (front or rear facing). The x-aisle system is adjustable to accommodate rack aisle widths of 30-, 36-, 42-, and 48-inches and can also adjust to fit racks installed either directly across an aisle or offset up to 20-inches (maximum). Figure 1 shows an example of two FDF racks installed in a 48-inch aisle configuration with a 0.0-inch offset (left) and a 20-inch offset (right).

SYSTEM PLANNING (AISLE SPACE AND TROUGH OFFSET CALCULATION)
2.1 FDF Racks To determine the appropriate X-aisle kit needed between FDF racks (front or rear facing), measure the aisle width and the trough offset position of the two respective racks as shown in Figure 2 and as follows: 1. Measure and record the aisle width (W) between the two respective racks. Refer to Table 1. 2. In lineup 1, measure the distance from “Point A” to “Point B” (X). Make sure to measure from the base of both racks. 3. In lineup 2, measure from “Point A” to “Point C” (Y). Make sure to measure from the base of both racks. 4. Subtract X from Y to determine (Z). Using dimensions (W) and (Z), refer to Table 1 and match to the appropriate X-aisle trough kit.

2.2 NG3 Racks To determine the appropriate X-aisle kit needed between NG3 racks, measure the aisle width and determine the frame-to-frame trough offset of the two respective racks. See Figure 3 and perform the following: To determine aisle width (W): 1. Measure and record the aisle width between the two respective racks (W). Refer to Table 1. (Scenario 1) To determine trough offset (Z) for front to front or rear to rear facing installations: 2. In lineup 1, measure the distance (X) starting at a common point (Point A) of both lineups, to the starting edge of the respective rack base (Point B). Next add the distance from “Point B” to the edge of the trough (12.77-inches). See Figure 3, Scenario 1. 3. In lineup 2, measure distance (Y) from common point (Point A) to the starting edge of the respective rack base (Point C). Next, add the distance from “Point C” to the edge of the trough (4.81-inches). See Figure 3, Scenario 1. 4. To determine the trough offset (Z), subtract values calculated in Step 2 and Step 3. 5. Using (W, Step 1) and (Z, Step 4) refer to Table 1 and select the appropriate X-aisle trough kit. (Scenario 2) To determine trough offset (Z) for front to rear facing installations: 6. In lineup 2, measure the distance (X) starting at a common point (Point A) of both lineups, to the starting edge of the respective rack base (Point C). Next add the distance from “Point C” to the edge of the trough (4.81-inches). See Figure 3, Scenario 2. 7. In lineup 2, measure distance (Y) from common point (Point A) to the starting edge of the respective rack base (Point D). Next, add the distance from “Point D” to the edge of the trough (4.81-inches). See Figure 3, Scenario 2. 8. To determine the trough offset (Z), subtract values calculated in Step 6 and Step 7. 9. Using (W, Step 1) and (Z, Step 8) refer to Table 1 and select the appropriate X-aisle trough kit.

INSTALLATION Warning: Never install equipment in a wet location or during a lightning storm. When installing or modifying communication lines, disconnect lines at the network interface before working with uninsulated lines or terminals.
3.1 Unpack Kit Unpack and inspect the various components as follows: 1. Inspect the exterior of the shipping container for evidence of handling that may have damaged the components in the container. 2. Unpack each container while carefully checking the contents for damage and verify with the packing slip. 3. File a claim with the commercial carrier and notify ADC Customer Service if damage is detected or if parts are missing (see installation drawing shipped with kit). Save damaged cartons for inspection by the carrier or if the equipment requires return shipment at a future date. 4. Refer to Section 5, “Customer Information and Assistance” at the back of this manual, for repair, replacement, and warranty information.
