XIAH-BM1 Button 2 In iPod mode, Button 2 is the escape function in the iPod “browse” mode. It allows the user to enter and exit the “browse” mode. In XM mode, this is a preset select button. To set this preset, select the channel that you want and hold the button down for 5 seconds. Button 3 In iPod mode, Button 3 is the enter function in the iPod “browse” mode. This button allows the user to make selections when browsing through the music categories and songs. In XM mode, this is a preset select button. To set this preset, select the channel that you want and hold the button down for 5 seconds. Button 4 In iPod mode, Button 4 goes is previous selection in iPod “browse” mode. In XM mode, this is a preset select button. To set this preset, select the channel that you want and hold the button down for 5 seconds. Button 5 In iPod mode, Button 5 selects the next playlist up. In XM mode, this is a preset select button. To set this preset, select the channel that you want and hold the button down for 5 seconds. Button 6 In iPod mode, Button 6 selects the next playlist down.In XM mode, this is a preset select button. To set this preset, select the channel that you want and hold the button down for 5 seconds. INF This is the information button. In both modes, when pressed the title of the song and the artist of the song is displayed on the radio. SAT This chooses between 3 sets of presets in the XM mode. In the iPod mode, this button is not used. XIAH-BM1 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS The XiA connects an iPod and a XM receiver with a display module to an OEM radio allowing control of the iPod or the XM receiver through the radio buttons.This manual is specifically for BMW OEM Radios that have the XiA Interface Unit installed in-vehicle along with either or both iPod and an external XM Receiver. The XiA Interface Unit emulates an OEM CD Changer or an external Satellite Receiver, and on installation replaces either one. In vehicles that are not equipped for the OEM Satellite Receiver, the XiA Adapter should be setup to emulate the CD Changer. INTRODUCTION XIAH-BM1 XIA CABLE HARNESS PREPARATIONS Button 2 For the XIAH-BM1 Harness, the XiA Adapter can emulate either the OEM CD Changer or Satellite Receiver. For the case of emulating the Satellite Receiver, the white jumper wire run from J3 Pin 7 to J3 Pin 16 must be cut. Once the cut is completed, the wires must be wrapped with insulating tape and stored away. For the XiA Adapter emulating the OEM CD Changer, no changes should be made to this cable harness. In iPod mode, Button 2 advances to the next category of music. In XM mode, Button 2 sets the “category search” mode, and the left and right arrow buttons are now category up and down. Button 3 In iPod mode, Button 3 is used as the “up” key for “browse” mode. In XM mode, this is a channel preset. To set this pre set you must be in the channel “set preset” mode. Button 4 In iPod mode, this is the escape key for exiting the “browse” mode. In XM mode, this is a channel preset. To set this pre set you must be in the channel “set preset” mode. Button 5 In iPod mode, this is the enter key for the “browse” mode. RADIO OPERATION The right arrow button goes one track up in iPod mode or one channel up if in XM mode. To use the iPod or the XM after installing the XiA Adapter, turn on the radio and push the Tape, CD or Mode button. The iPod or XM Receiver --- depending on which is connected --- begins to play through the Radio Speaker system. Once you are listening to the iPod or XM, use the arrow keys to advance to the next track or to the pervious track or station. Section 2 describes the button operations when listening to either iPod or Satellite Radio. In XM mode, this is a channel preset. To set this preset you must be in the channel “set preset” mode. Button 6 In iPod mode, this is the “down” key for “browse” mode. In XM mode, this button is used to enter the channel preset mode. To exit the “set preset” mode, set a preset or press Button 1 to exit. PART 1: Controls for CD Changer Emulation Mode The BMW OEM Radios vary in what buttons they have. This manual covers as many buttons as possible. The Radio connected to the XiA Unit, most likely, will not have all the buttons listed in this document. However, the definitions of the buttons displayed on the radio will still be valid. PORT OVERVIEW 1) This port is used with the optonal XIA-LCD display. RADIO BUTTON CONTROL Button CD/Tape Button Mode Description of Function Selects the next device. If iPod was the previous device that was playing, then XM is selected, and vise versa. Selects the next device. If iPod was the previous device that was playing, then XM is selected, and vise versa. 2) This port is used with the XM cable XIAH-XMC or the AUX IN cable XIAH-RCA. FM/AM Button Deselects XM mode or iPod mode. 3) This port is used with the iPOD cable XIAH-IPC or the AUX IN cable XIAH-RCA. Right Arrow Button The right arrow button goes one track up in iPod mode or one channel up in XM mode. Left Arrow Button The left arrow button goes one track down in iPod mode or one channel down in XM mode. Scan In XM and iPod modes, this button scans though channels or categories.
