XXXIX INTERNATIONAL FORUM OF NEW MUSIC “MANUEL ENRÍQUEZ” CALL FOR SCORES
The Ministry of Culture, through the National Fine Arts Institute and the National Coordination of Music and Opera,
Invites composers and performers to propose works to be performed within the XXXIX International Forum of New Music “Manuel Enríquez” (FIMNME), which will be held from September 22 to October 15, 2017 in Mexico City and other cities. This annual encounter is regarded of embracing all compositional tendencies, and of being a representative forum of the current panorama of music composition in Mexico and the rest of the world. The selection of proposals will consider music quality and viability. Basis for participation Each composer may submit up to two works, on the understanding that only one work per composer may be selected. FIMNME will give priority to the following instrumental settings: • Symphony Orchestra with or without soloist • String Orchestra with or without soloist • String Quartet • Woodwind Quintet • Mixed vocal ensembles up to 8 singers a cappella. • Ensemble from 7 and up to 15 musicians with priority to the following setting (without soloist): flute (piccolo and alto flute), oboe (English horn), 2 clarinets (clarinet in E flat and bass clarinet), bassoon, French horn, 2 percussionists, piano, 2 violins, viola, cello, double bass. • Recorded electronic and live electronics with or without acoustic instruments (as described above) with or without voice. Each performer, either soloist or ensemble, may propose a full program which may be selected entirely or just part of it, to integrate a full program with works proposed by the Selection Committee. Proposals including works by living Mexican or foreign composers that living in Mexico must have a written permit by the composer (either original or electronic), Priority will be given to works not performed in past editions of the FIMNME. Works by composers involved in the organization of FIMNME and the Selection Committee cannot be selected. The Selection Committee will consist of renowned musicians, and it will be responsible of the selection of the works to be performed. The Selection Committee, in conjunction with the National Coordination of Music and Opera, may appoint interpreters for the performance of the pieces.

The Selection Committee together with the National Coordination of Music and Opera may extend invitations to prominent national and foreign composers, so one of their works can be performed in the FIMNME.

In addition to the score and parts, is the responsibility of the applicants (composers and performers) whose work is chosen, to provide without any costs to the FIMNME, the additional material required for performing the work. It is also responsibility of the composer to cover his own expenses to attend the concert, such as transportation, food and lodging costs. FIMNME will not pay for score rentals.

Participants of this forum accept all previous statements and approve the use of their materials for archiving, transmission, distribution and promotion by different media.

Any situation, not stated in this Call for Scores, will be solved by the Selection Committee and the National Coordination of Music and Opera. The upcoming decision will be considered final and there will be no right of appeal. Documentation
All documents must be submitted in printed format (1 set) and digital format (1 DVD/CD’s) with the following: • Biography containing place, date of birth and artistic background. Maximum length of half page (1000 characters, double-spaced line format), in Word format. • Note about the composition. Maximum length of half a page (900 characters, double-spaced line format), in Word format. • Score. It is important to state the exact duration of the work to ensure proper programming. Digital version in PDF format. • Parts of the works proposed by the composers (There is no need that performers send parts.) Digital version in PDF format • Parts of the works proposed for symphony orchestra that may result selected must be delivered in the dates stated in the General Information section. • Color or black and white photo of the composer, in high resolution with a minimum of 300 dpi. (JPG, PDF, or TIFF formats) • Registration form filled (in capitals and small letters), using the proper characters of the language in which is submitted. • If considered necessary, send audio in MP3 format (Do not send MIDI formats.)
Digital material • Regarding works including either preset electronic media or live electronics, it is compulsory to provide the relative technical rider and, without any cost to the FIMNME, interfaces, software and all kinds of special devices required for performance. The contents must be submitted on audio CD at a resolution of 16 bits - 44.1 kHz. The works composed for more than two channels and/or higher resolution should be sent as digital files on a data DVD and additionally on an audio mixed CD copy so the Selection Committee can evaluate it. In such cases, the reproduction will be made through a computer, which must be provided by the composer, except the cases of those composers living outside Mexico. • Under no circumstances incomplete applications will be accepted. It is the responsibility of each applicant to complete in time all requirements stated in this call, otherwise proposals will not be considered. General Information Proposals will be received from Monday to Friday from 11:00 to 14:00 hours, except in nonworking days, at the address listed below. Deadline is Monday, June 12, 2017. If application is sent by courier it must be marked under the concept of "no commercial value", and there will be considered only the ones received before the deadline date. Deadline to deliver parts of selected works for symphony orchestra is Monday, August 21, 2017. Materials must be received in the indicated dates, otherwise the performance of these works may be cancelled.
