To replaceit, unscrew the cover, by turning the cover with a coin in the direction of arrow. Place th e battery i n th e co m partment being careful to obserue polarity marking. +(plus) marking on the battery should face out toward the battery compartment cover, and -(minus) toward camera top. CAUTION: Do not leave finger prints on the mercury battery as these cause it to rust or corrode. Wipe with a soft cloth and keep battery clean. Do not disassemblethe mercury battery. Do not throw any used mercury battery into a f ire or where children can get hold of it. Remove mercury battery when camera is not in use for a long period of tiffie, store it in a cool, dry and safe place. www.orphancameras.com LOADTNG FILM (l) To unlock the back cover, slidethe S l i d e L o c k R e l e a s eB u t t o n i n t h e direction of arrow (to the marking "O") pressingit, and the hinged c o v e rw i l l s w i n go p e n . P ul l o u t t h e F i l m R e w i n d i n gK n o b , and insert a new r o l l o f f i l m i n t h e film chamber. G e n t l y d r a w o u t t h e f i l m l e e d e rf r o m the cassette, and thread the leader into the slot of the take-up spool. The spool rotates ln the direction of ar!'cwassltown in the photo. Advance the film with one stroke of the Advance Lever, and rnake sure the f i l m p e r f o r a t i o n sp r o p e r l y t h r e a d e do n the sprocketteeth. www.orphancameras.com LOADTNGFrLM (2) Closethe back cover by pnessing it w i t h y o u r f i ngersu nt i I it locks into posit ion. Flip up the film rewindcrank handle to the horizontal position and gently wind in the directionof arrow (marked on the knob) until you feel a slight resistance and replace the handle. T u r n t h e A S A F i l m S p e e dS e t t i n g K n o b t o a l i g n t h e A S A n um b e r of the film with the red dot. 2. To energize CdS meter, press the On/Off Switch Button. Keep on pressing it while taking exposure reading. 3. Aim the camera at the subject, and the red indicator needle will swing and show the proper Light Value figure. 10i 4. Read the LV figure, and turn the L V S Ri n g ( t h e o u t e r m o s t r i n g ) until the value number on the scale is opposite the red triangle mark. Even if subject is indoors and bright or strong light coming through the w i n d o w s i s b a c k l i g h t i n g t h e s ub j e c t , n o a dj u s t m e n t i s n e c e s s a r y a s t h e ex posure meter is bu i lt to com pensate f o r s u c h e x t r e m e si n l i g h t i n g . www.orphancameras.com LYJ sHU T-ItsK Selection of Required kns and Shutter Speed Opening Even after the basic exposure value has been set, and if smallerapertures or higher shutter speedsare desired, the requ ired aperture o pening or shutter speed can be set by turning the Cross Coupling Ring, and set it to the red triangular mark. For example,as shownleft, assuming the LVS reading from the meter is 9, and when the f igure I is set opposite the red triangle, the basic exposure will be t 15.6with 1 l15 sec. shutterspeed.In the above-mentioned way, the correct exposuresettingsin various combinations, within a zone partitioned by lines, wil I be made in relation to the basic exposure combination. VIEWFINDER & PARALLAX CORRECTION The single window combines the v i e w / r a n g e fi n d e r , w h i c h e n a b l e s y o u t o q u i c kl y s i g h t , f o c t r s a n d frame the picture you compose w i t h i n t h e f r a m e s s e e ni n t h e f i n d e r . Parallaxis correctedautomatically i n t h e Y A S H I C AM i n i s t e r - D . The camera,with a tilting Prism, fu lly coupled to the rangefinder positivelycorrectsfor parallax. www.orphancameras.com SIGHTING & FOCUSING The extra largeviewingwindow features a bright line frame indicating clearlythe field of the 45mm lens. When you compose your picture within this frame, you are assured of gettingthe samepicture you are seeingthroughthe finder. To focus, sight the smallrectangle appearing in the middleto the subject and t u r n t h e F o c u s i n gR i n g u ntil the two imagesoverlap and form one clearimage,and it is now in focus. The left photo shows that the super-imposed image and actual one overlaps and forms a clear image, i, e., the camera is in true focu s. The left photo show the two images wh ich are not overlapped and the camerais not yet in focus. www.orphancameras.com HOW TO HOLD YOUR CAMERA It is very important to hold your cameracorrectlyand steadilywhen taking picturesin order to obtain good results. Hold it to your face with your elbows held close to your waist, so that movementwill be minimized. The left photo showshow to hold your camerain a horizontalposition. For vertical use of the camera hold it as shown in photo at left. Push the Shutter ReleaseButton: Push the shutter releasebutton as gentlyas possible, otherwise,it may blurring. causeunexpected Film Advance Lever: Move the f ilm advancelever until it stops thereby bringing the next unexposed section of f ilm into place and cocking the shutter. www.orphancameras.com UNLOADING FILM After taking a full roll of film (the exposure counter shows the figure 36 or 20)', it is necessary to rewind the film into the cassettebefore removing the exposed film from the camera. Press the Film Rewind Release Button which is located on the base of the camera. The button need n o t b e k e p t d e p r e s s e dw h i l e t h e f i l m i s b e i n gr e w o u n d . ' Flip up the film rewind crank handle to the horizontal position and wind in the direction of the arrow. Toward the end of the film you will f eel a slight resistance, but continue turning the rewind crank until the film pulls away from the slot on the Take-upSpool. When the f ilm is completely rewound into the cassette,open the back cover. Pull up the rewind crank shaft and remove cassette. www.orphancameras.com TAKING FLASH PICTURES Slip the proper flash unit into the Accessory Shoe or attach it to the camera with a bracket. Plug the f l a s h c o r d i n t o t h e s y n c h r o - t e r mi nal of the camera. The ex posure setting can be determined according to the guide number table packed with bulbs to be used. Move the MX Synchro SeleCtor Lever to the "M" position, when u s i n gM - t y p e b u l b s . Set the speedand move the selftimer leverto the directionshown by the arrow. The self-timerruns about 8 secondsbeforethe shutter snaps. DEPTH-OF.FIELD When you focus the camera on a subject there is a certain distance in front and back of the subject within which other objects will also appear sharp. This is known asthe "Depth-of-Field", and it varies with the lens aperture. The smaller the aperture the greater t h e D e p t h - o f - Fi e l d . Whenthe camera is focused on your subject,look for the apertureyou are usingon either side of the scale to determinethe Depth-of-Field.
