You’re a Star
In my book!
Tricia was looking for an excuse to make this fabulous star book on The Lounge. She found it made a spectacular thank you for a military friend. As usual, Tricia breaks down the stitching for us and then ramps it all up with sophisticated military embellishments.

Starting Your Project 1
Fold all the cardstock papers included in the 6" x 6" Military Star Book Kit from Club Scrap. For ease in folding, Tricia uses a scoring tool to score the fold lines before folding. With the print to the inside, fold all of the Green Graph Print, Sage Green, Grey Embossed, and Evergreen Print cardstock in half, maintaining the 6" height.

You’re a Star Fold each of the 8" x 12" Steel Print sheets in half vertically; open, then fold in half again horizontally. These sheets should be folded print-side out. Use a bone folder to reinforce all folds.
2
With the Steel Print open, measure and mark 2" up from the horizontal score line in the middle of the sheet on both the right and left side. Measure and mark 2" from the vertical score line along the top edge of the Steel Print on both the right and left side.
3
With the cardstock on a cutting mat, place the Grid Ruler from Club Scrap at the top measurement to the right of the vertical score line and line the Ruler diagonally with the measurement on the right edge. Use a craft knife to cut away the corner triangle. Repeat cut on the other side. Refold the Steel Print on the score lines for this pocket page. Continue for the remaining 6 Steel Print cardstock sheets.
4
There are seven points (signatures) in this star book. These directions are for one of the points. Repeat these steps for each of the star points. Put the star point pages (signatures) together as follows. Nest one folded Green Graph Print inside a folded Sage Green. These are nested inside an Evergreen Print. The Grey Embossed and Steel Print Pocket are a part of each of the seven points, but are not needed for the stitching portion of the star book. Set them aside for now.
5
Pierce the stitching holes. Working with one signature at a time, place the Green Graph Print, print-side up, on the XL Corkboard from Timeless Touches. Use the Retractable Paper Piercer, also from Timeless Touches and the Grid Ruler from Club Scrap to pierce holes in the fold at 1", 2", 4", and 5". Stack the pierced Green Graph Print on top of the Sage Green piece from the same signature—be very precise so the fold lines line up exactly. Place both pieces on the XL Corkboard and, using the pierced holes in the Green Graph Print as a guideline, pierce holes in the Sage Green piece underneath. Repeat for the Evergreen Print. Be very precise when lining up the fold lines of the Green Graph Print and the Evergreen Print. Pierce stitching holes in the Evergreeen Print using the Green Graph Print as the guideline.
You’re a Star
Repeat Step 5 for the remaining 6 signatures. It’s important that you pierce each page separately using the original piece as the guideline. Otherwise, you run the risk of transferring a mistake to remaining pages. This step takes a while, but it is very therapeutic and the professional results are worth the effort.
6
Nest one signature at a time: Green Graph Print followed by Sage Green following by Evergreen Print. Stack so that the 6" sides are flush and holes lineup evenly. Repeat to create a total of 7 signatures.
7
Stitch the signatures. Thread one bookbinding needle on each end of 3 yards of Grey Waxed Linen Thread, included in the Kit from Club Scrap. Working from the inside out of the first signature, enter Hole #2 with Needle #1. Enter Hole #3 from the inside out Needle #2. Pull the waxed linen thread so that it is even, as if you were lacing a pair of shoes. Criss-cross the threads and bring Needle #1 down (back to the inside) of the Hole #3 and Needle #2 down (back to the inside) of the Hole #2. Pull waxed linen thread snug.
Bring Needle #1 out at the Hole #4 and bring Needle #2 out at Hole #1. Pull snug. Fold this first signature closed.
8
Position the second signature behind the first signature so the holes line up. Holding the first signature closed, open the second signature so you can stitch inside and outside easily.

9
Both needles are now on the outside of the first folded signature. Bring the needles down into the corresponding holes in the second signature. This will bring the needles into the fold at Hole #1 and Hole #4. This connects signature 1 to Signature 2. Bring the needle from Hole #1 out through Hole #2. Bring the needle from Hole #4 out through Hole #3. Criss-cross the threads and bring the needle from Hole #2 down into Hole #3. Bring the needle from Hole #3 down into Hole #2. Once again bring the needles to the outside of the second signature at the nearest outside holes (Hole #1 and Hole #4).
Repeat the pattern established in Steps 8 and 9 for the remaining signatures. Remember to always add the next signature behind the signature you just stitched to keep the star pattern in tact.
10
On the last signature, simply tie a knot on the inside fold when stitching is complete and trim the ends of the waxed linen thread.
11
Locate the first signature of the star book. Apply a bead line of Bookbinding Adhesive from Club Scrap to the right edge of the inside of the Evergreen Print. Spread to the outside edge with the Chisel Point Foam Brush from Club Scrap. With the Grey Embossed piece folded, adhere to the glued area, being careful to align the edges. Apply a bead line of Bookbinding Adhesive to the left edge of the Evergreen Print and spread with the foam brush. Fold the Evergreen Print closed onto the Grey Embossed piece—again being careful to align the edges.
You’re a Star In the same manner adhere the last piece of the signature— Steel Print Pocket—to complete the first point of the star. Be sure that the pocket fold is at the bottom of the book—always checking alignment of all the edges as you work.
13
12
Complete Steps 11 and 12 for the remaining 6 points of the star. To finish the “star” of the book, attach the outer pages (Evergreen Print) with the decorative Diamond Clips including in the Kit from Club Scrap.
Decorate all of the exposed pages of the Star Book with photos, memorabilia, embellishments, and journaling as follows:
14
For the front and back covers, trim 5¾" squares from 12" x 12" decorative papers from the “Current Operations Military” Kit from Memories in Uniform. Tricia chose to use two different papers for the front and back covers. Rough-up the edges of the 5¾" squares with a Distressing Tool, available from Club Scrap, and distress the edges further with a dye-based ink pad. Add Rub-On Transfers also from Memories in Uniform to both covers.

15
Choose the title for the front of the Star Book. Place those letters from the Sticker Sheet included in the Current Operations Military Kit on a freezer wrap-covered chipboard piece—this will make them easy to remove after distressing. Sand the letters with a sanding block. Wipe off excess dust and then distress with the same dye-based ink pad used earlier. Adhere letter stickers to front cover.
Continue decorating the rest of the Star Book keeping in mind that the Steel Print Pocket page opens with even more scrapbooking real estate to decorate.
16
Tricia used a variety of Stickers, Rub-On Transfers, Laser DieCuts, and Papers from Memories in Uniform throughout the book. Scan memorabilia that you want to include—Tricia scanned Jason’s medals—and include those strategically in the Star Book.
17
The back cover of the book is accented with a red & white ¼" ribbon along with a simple sentiment: THX…thanks for a job well done.

Notice the beaded embellishments on the spine of this elegant book. A black & white photo with a simple book plate title is all that’s needed on the front cover. Large black & white photos are enhanced by the addition of sponged color and stamped words from another Club Scrap Kit.
Congratulations You’ve just completed the You’re a Star project, but the fun doesn’t stop there! Be sure to stop back by The Scrapbook Lounge every week for more exciting new twists on scrapbooking!
